About the Business
Welcome to the Brooklyn Public Library - Kings Highway Branch, a cornerstone of knowledge and community engagement located at 2115 Ocean Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11229. As the first branch library built in Brooklyn by the City of New York, our library has a rich history dating back to its humble beginnings in 1910. From its initial days as an unstaffed deposit station in an undertaking establishment, to its moves through various locations, the library found its permanent home in 1954.
Following a comprehensive renovation completed in 2009, the Kings Highway Branch boasts expanded spaces, including a beloved basement reading room—a perfect spot for quiet study and Wi-Fi usage. In 2013, we further enhanced our services by opening a Passport Office within the library.
Our library offers unique lending opportunities, including the ability to borrow up to three tools at a time from the Greenpoint Library and museum passes to over 80 cultural institutions. We also provide a comprehensive guide to resources for genealogical research, assisting you in uncovering your family history.
Your involvement is crucial in keeping the library a vibrant and vital cultural and civic center for everyone. Join us for engaging events in our Children's Meeting Room, including upcoming sessions on Tuesdays at 1:30 PM.
Visit us and explore a world of knowledge, culture, and community at the Kings Highway Branch. We look forward to welcoming you!

"They have a manga section ❤️ love it though its missing a few volumes its cool"
"A few bad apples ruin the bunch. Sometimes the staff is super nice, sometimes they're aggressive and make you feel unwelcome. They sit on $1800 Herman Miller chairs and still have a bad attitudes idk. Especially the old blonde white lady, so rude."
"I want to say a huge thank you to this library! 2 times a week I go to learn English with the best teacher in the world, Miss Emma. Thank you very much to her and the library workers for finding such professionals! Also, thank you very much for the free chess club for children, this is a wonderful idea, the children of our district happily run to the library after school and do bad things on the street."
"The place gets noisy sometimes, and it's not a very pleasant place to sit down and read. I usually only go there to collect my books and leave. I can't imagine anyone getting any actual work done when there's so much noise around. It's not a very nice place in general, the tables are a little small, and the general layout of the place feels kind of cramped. I wish there was a separate section just for reading and doing work, like in the peninsula public library. Though I've never personally experienced sass or attitude from the librarians, (probably because I never stay long enough to encounter anyone,) I've seen people mentioning how rude the staff is."
