"Based on a previous interaction in June 2020, I regret to say that I cannot endorse the services provided by Mr. Gerard Giannetti, CPA. I was introduced to Mr. Giannetti by my attorney, and we agreed upon a $7,500 estimate and retainer for him to prepare a financial report. I was subsequently astounded to receive an invoice totaling $28,500 – almost quadruple the initial agreed-upon amount. When questioned, Mr. Giannetti pointed me to the retainer agreement and stated that he was not obligated to inform me when the costs significantly surpassed the original estimate and retainer amount. The invoice detailed 150 hours of work charged on a time-and-material (T&M) basis, with 142 of those hours billed by his associate at $150/hr. Given that I had provided a majority of the necessary data in a summarized format, I found it inconceivable that a competent professional would need 150 hours to compile the report. Upon inquiring about his associate's qualifications, Mr. Giannetti claimed she was a Rutgers University Newark finance graduate and current Rutgers Law School evening student. However, after contacting the Rutgers University-Newark Registrar's Office, I learned his associate was actually a junior in an unrelated field, thus lacking the claimed educational background and experience of a finance graduate and current law student. It was only after I confronted Mr. Giannetti about his dishonesty and threatened legal action that he consented to refund my $7,500 retainer. I urge others to exercise caution and conduct thorough research before engaging Mr. Giannetti's services."
