About the Business
Welcome to the Brooklyn Public Library - Cortelyou Branch, a vibrant cultural and civic center located on Argyle Road in the heart of Brooklyn, New York. Established in 1983 after years of dedication from the Flatbush community, our branch has been a cornerstone of learning, creativity, and community engagement.
At Cortelyou Library, we offer a variety of unique services to enrich your experience. You can borrow up to three tools at a time from the Greenpoint Library and access museum passes to over 80 cultural institutions. Our resources are specifically curated to assist you in conducting genealogical research, providing a wealth of information for those tracing family histories.
Our library is not just a place for books; it's a celebration of cultural diversity and local talent. We proudly feature Pakistani music, Bengali fiction, Russian poetry, and West Indian novels, showcasing the creativity and professionalism of our community.
The library underwent significant enhancements in 2021 thanks to the efforts of the Friends of Cortelyou Library, who raised over $40,000. This funding helped us introduce a revised layout, new reading tables and chairs, and updated furniture in the children's and teen areas. Additionally, a New York State-funded project allowed us to upgrade the main room's shelves, lighting, and flooring.
Our welcoming entry and the striking mural of bright blue triangles wrapping around the building reflect the dynamic spirit of Cortelyou Library. We invite you to be a part of this journey. Consider joining the Friends of Cortelyou Library, a dedicated group of volunteers who support our library through advocacy, fundraising, and promotion. For more information, speak with a staff member or email [email protected].
Discover, learn, and grow with us at the Brooklyn Public Library - Cortelyou Branch, where your involvement helps keep our library a thriving community hub for everyone.

Reviews
"I sometimes visit the library. It's a very nice environment."
"The staff are really nice and their bathrooms are mid and their computers are fun I usually go there."
"Very nice public library. Books are well organized. Good staff. Located right in front of a playground, various shops, bakeries etc. Excellent place to bring my kids here checkout a few books and head to playground. Very family friendly environment."
"Ive lived here for years and have always loved coming to this ranch but not anymore. The library has never been this bad. Nannies come here and let the kids go wild. It’s not a reading or learning environment anymore; It’s a literal playground. The kids are screaming and running around while their caregivers just sit and chat. Never a chair to sit in. The workers just let it happen. It’s honestly better to walk farther and go to a different branch"
"Super friendly super helpful. Smaller collection than some other libraries but given the size they have a good selection. Again the ladies are super helpful. I had no clue how to print stuff from my phone and was helped to get it done step by step."
