About the Business
Welcome to the Brooklyn Public Library - Paerdegat Branch, a cornerstone of community life located on Paerdegat Avenue South in Brooklyn, New York. Our library serves as a vibrant cultural and civic hub, offering a wide range of resources and services to patrons of all ages.
At the Paerdegat Branch, you can borrow up to three tools at a time from our Greenpoint Library collection, and explore the rich cultural landscape of New York City with museum passes to over 80 cultural institutions. We also provide a comprehensive guide to resources that are invaluable for conducting genealogical research, helping you uncover and connect with your family history.
Our library has a storied history, beginning in 1950 when it first opened in the abandoned laundry of the Glenwood Project. The immense popularity of this "library-in-a-laundry" highlighted the community's need for a dedicated branch, leading to the establishment of the Paerdegat Branch in the early 1960s at its current location on East 59th Street.
The Friends of Paerdegat Library is a passionate group of volunteers dedicated to supporting our library through advocacy, fundraising, and promotion. Their involvement is crucial in maintaining the library as a thriving center for learning and culture. If you're interested in joining the Friends of Paerdegat Library, please speak with a staff member or email [email protected] for more information.
We invite you to visit us and discover all that the Paerdegat Branch has to offer. Your participation and support help ensure that our library continues to be a vital resource for everyone in the community.

"I like this library because I got to play with the Legos. They have alot of amazing books. Thank you for having me - Allison E. Age 6"
"Today, at about 4:pm a woman and a young boy came into the library having a loud conversation with no regard for the users of the library. The two library staff made no attempt to quiet the two people. So I had to go up to the counter to ask the library staff to speak to these people. One library staff member said that I should not complain about the disturbing noise. This is a regular feature of this library. So if you need to work here in peace don't come here. The staff tolerate loud people. They are always afraid to get them to be quiet."
"The librarians were very nice and quite helpful. A male librarian assisted me with printing research for my dissertation. Overheard their warm welcome to all the families who came in to get a library card. The library became quite loud around 4 pm. Even the security guard spoke quite loud. No one directed anyone to lower their voices."
"I was at this library today and a lady name Allison was at the desk she was not helpful at all very rude and loud had no knowledge of how to do resumes, so I got on the computers and help myself I was almost don't with my resume and my time on the computer was running out I asked her for five more minutes she said no. I told her it was for a very important job she still answered very disrespectful and said no. Well of course my time ran I out and all my hard work disappeared, she didn't apologize and seem to have not cared at all. She then rolled her eyes at me and sat back down at her chair. She is very loud in the library very unprofessional and only helps who she wants to help. Im gonna make it my business to report her to the cooperate bosses of this library. I don't think she deserves to be working in a library. She has no remorse or consideration for ppl hard work"
