About the Business
Welcome to Stone Avenue Library, a cherished cultural and civic hub located at 581 Mother Gaston Boulevard, Brooklyn, New York. Established on September 24, 1914, this historic library was originally known as the Brownsville Children’s Library, celebrated as one of the first libraries in the world dedicated solely to children. As one of the last Carnegie libraries built in Brooklyn, Stone Avenue Library has a rich legacy of fostering education and community engagement.
Our library offers a unique array of resources and services to enhance your learning experience. You can borrow up to three tools at a time from our Greenpoint Library collection, or explore New York's rich cultural landscape with our museum passes, granting access to over 80 cultural institutions. For those interested in uncovering their family history, we provide a comprehensive guide to genealogical research.
Stone Avenue Library is more than just a place to read; it's a vibrant community center where your involvement keeps the spirit of learning alive. Our recent renovation, in celebration of our 100th anniversary, introduced exciting new features including a life-sized chess set, modern furniture and lighting, and beautifully refinished interiors. A standout addition is our "Word Wall," a stunning mural that highlights the 1,000 most frequently used words in reading and writing, underscoring our commitment to literacy and education.
Join us at Stone Avenue Library, where history, culture, and community come together to inspire and empower everyone who walks through our doors.

"Yesterday I went to this Library and I was greeted on entry. I haven't been to the Library in several years and needed a new library card, Ms. Denise Williams helped me navigate through it. She was not only helpful but also knowledgeable and made my experience a breeze. I will go to this Library again. Thank you, Ms. Denise Williams!"
