"I'm just asking, is this really the right behavior? Someone had left their books outside to share for other people, close to your shop. Then you went and collected all the books and put them on the shelves to sell them at not even cheap prices...I am really surprised. Instead of selling them right away, you could have waited a little bit longer and waited for the books that someone else had shared for people in need to reach them."
"I love buying books, especially cheap second-hand finds, and I also love philosophy books. I'd accepted that these things generally don't go together, with philosophy books going for 20+ dollars even second-hand. This bookshop changed my life. I found books I'd sought for the longest time for under ten dollars, including Felski, Badiou, and so many good condition Verso books too! I bought an extreme amount of books on my NYC trip in many different shops, but this one stands out as my absolute favourite. Could visit it for hours every day and wouldn't get bored- just bankrupt, eventually. Really grateful to the owners for making philosophy/theory bookshopping affordable. :)"
"Excellent selection and reasonable prices. Picked up a couple of cool books on religion and also some kids' books. Also love that they are open late. Brooklyn needs more stores like this."
"Cute bookstore on Vanderbilt Avenue! There is a good variety of books such as philosophy, art history, fiction, etc. I mostly looked at classic children's books. I saw several early editions of Alice in Wonderland. Poetry seemed to be favored since there was one section dedicated to it! I also peeped at the open backyard, which seemed to be set up for events. It did feel a bit crowded when there were more than five people moving around to explore!"
"One of the best used bookstores in New York, and in a great new spot attracting more readers than ever. Titles cater to politically and socially mindful, with great strengths in fiction, history, philosophy, and academic disciplines. Carts outside have some gems priced to go. Most of the stuff is quite reasonably priced, too. A solid selection of new books as well. I’m a super happy long-time patron because there’s always something new there, some title I’ve never heard of - definitely go for a browse before or after hitting up Ample Hills or Soda Bar across the street!"
