About the Business
Welcome to the Macon Library, a treasured community resource located on Macon Street in the heart of Brooklyn, New York. As one of the best-preserved Carnegie branches in Brooklyn, our beautiful, historic library has been serving the community since 1907. The two-story, Classical Revival-style building retains its original fireplaces, oak paneling, alcoves, and wooden benches, offering a warm and inviting atmosphere that has welcomed patrons for over a century.
At Macon Library, we offer a range of unique services to enrich your experience. You can borrow up to three tools at a time from our Greenpoint Library, and enjoy access to museum passes for over 80 cultural institutions. For those interested in exploring their heritage, we provide a comprehensive guide to resources that are helpful in conducting genealogical research.
Our Dionne Mack-Harvin Center, dedicated to African American history and culture, houses the "Preserving Footsteps" collection, making it a cornerstone for cultural enrichment and education. Macon Library is not just a place for books; it is a vibrant and vital cultural and civic center for everyone in the community.
We invite you to become part of our story by joining the Friends of Macon Library, a dedicated group of volunteers who support us through advocacy, fundraising, and promotion. Your involvement helps keep our library thriving. For more information, ask a staff member or email [email protected].
Join us for our upcoming events at the Dionne Mack-Harvin Heritage Center and experience the rich history and culture that Macon Library has to offer. We look forward to welcoming you!

Reviews
"I got The Black Album special edition card for The Book of Hov 2023 yesterday, and it was a very pleasant experience the librarians were extremely helpful and very kind. Thank you again!"
"Relatively quiet and well organized. Staff members are quick to help. I needed to use a computer and I simply need to print out a guest pass which takes a second to get login details."
"Friendly librarians, for the most part; it's not a comprehensive center, book-wise, but; a good place to go, plugin, and access the net for free. 4 stars."
"The organization and professionalism are top rated. When I visited a few weeks ago and could not find the book, one of the security guards came to my assistance and contacted the librarian who did an excellent job. Staff are very friendly and if you want a place to do some serious research, this is the place! It is quiet. So happy to have this branch in my neighborhood. Yeahhhh."
