"When I went to Murry Bergtraum in the 1980's it was a specialized school for students who had passed their previous school with no lower than a 85% average and the policy at this school was that you had to maintain an 80 average in order to remain in the school. The school also had a strict conduct policy. You must respect teachers and fellow classmates, insubordination resulted in a transfer or dismissal after 3rd warning. The school was located right across from One Police Plaza. what better security. The school was supported by AT&T, the building it was attached to and it was not far from the heart of Wall Street where I worked after school three days a week at a brokerage firm. Because of the elite computer program major, where I interned at 7am in the morning doing "keypunch" , IBM would recruit young programmers right from the school. One of my classmates took introduction to law and went to John Jay college at night. One girl dressed in a three piece suit everyday because she managed a department at one of the local companies. When you left this school you left with a career. I loved and was extremely proud of this school when I left it in 1984'. Bring it back to it's former glory, which means the standards of a magnet school part charter. "Only those meeting the criteria with teacher recommendation should enter..". They have their district schools they can attend that are standard with special needs programs with children that have behavorial situations (that is important) Also, bump them if they don't want to respect , NO MATTER THEIR ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT" RESPECT IS KEY" ..Look for new and inventive sponsors who will pour into this school like the giants of the past. Reach out to former alumni , such as one of the "Wayne brothers" to see what they are willing to do. Then revamp this school back to its former glory. Many kids were like me, I traveled almost 1hr to get to school everyday from Harlem to be in a school where a bully was NOT ALLOWED. There were majors like accounting, law, computer science and programming, typing, and many others. There was a girl there who had one good hand in a wheel chair who typed 90 words a minute , put me to shame. I took computer science and accounting and had 84 credits when I graduated. Now when the world will have to think out of the box to bring itself back from the dead this school can be like a phoenix rising from the ashes. Bill Gates, Oprah Winfrey, This is a school worth fighting for....Please help Murry Bergtraum Shine AGAIN!"
"Murry Bergtraum High School is located in the Lower East Side section of Manhattan, across from One Police Plaza and James Madison Plaza and walking distance from the Brooklyn Bridge and City Hall. Bergtraum, German origin, in English translates to "mountain dream." The United Nations flag stands as a sign of Peace."New York City Department of Education.""
"I love this school but honestly just needs too be cleaned up socially academically is a good school just needs too have some leadership tweaks and a more strict yet open atmosphere, there a couple lazy folks working there and some paras that are cool but might need to retire or be re assigned. Great school too work at"
"I played here for ABCHOOPSNYC. The gym is wood but not polished/waxed (at least not when I played there). The lighting is dim aka not bright enough. The bathroom was ok. It did not smell. There is a tiny gym behind the main gym but the ceiling is quite low. The lines painted seem to be out of sync. Overall I do not enjoy playing here."
