"I have been to libraries all over as I travel for Work, Studies etc. This has to be the top 3 worst libraries I have ever been too. Point of a library - read and study IN SILENCE. NOT READ AND STUDY WITH KIDS SCREAMING AND YELLING. This open concept is a terrible idea. Shame on the architect and designer that put the kids section right on the middle first floor. Good luck trying to get work done here. Just absolutely insane. Also hours are terrible, 6pm on a weekday?? its New York lol people work all hours of the night.."
"Other reviews weren't kidding - it really is just a daycare! Arrived 10 minutes before opening and there was a line of literally 20 strollers waiting outside. Not a great place if you need to focus."
"Do not come here if you want somewhere to study and focus on your work. This has become a hang out spot and a place for kids where they can just scream. I went upstairs and tried to get as far as I could and even with my headphones I was still hearing the kids screaming and crying. They need to implement and enforce quiet time as this is a library and not a daycare center. I am not against them having activities for kids. I think it’s a great idea however they need to have a system where the library can still be the library for other people."
"A free for all glorified daycare filled with children running and screaming, filling the air with eau de diaper, parents not caring and sitting on their phones. Absolutely not a place for studying and reading. The open concept design and not closing off the childcare area was a massive flop... what were they thinking?? Sad and disappointing."
"I have been coming to this Library since 2014 and the renovations that has been done is for the worst. I want to start off by saying that i love the staff and there’s a mixture of new staff members with old staff members that have been there since day one! (Impressive if I might add). For some odd reason, before the renovations the Library held a lot more books which meant a lot more of a variety to choose from. At this point, I have to travel to other Libraries to get a book because it seems as if this library just turned into a neighborhood daycare. 85% of the space is dedicated to a children’s area, children’s activities and claustrophobic with parents and caregivers with their strollers and screaming babies. There is just a sliver of books for adults/young adults and I am always left with the question: What really was the reason for this renovation? To have 2 floors, there isn’t much of anything. Highly disappointed, there should’ve been a community vote from the people who live in the heart of greenpoint and would definitely tell you that this upscale “scene” is not benefiting anyone but just for ONLY the aesthetic to try and fit in with what is popular today. This isn’t a library. It’s a private daycare. Start charging tuition at this point."
