Reviews of University Centre
"The place seems to be good at first place, but the real situation is when you start living there. You will never get the apartment on the date the lease starts approval of lease takes a lot of time even past the lease date. Leasing manager is not concerned about the person who has to move in. Morever workorders take too long to resolve. Nobody handles issues properly and all the things are made to be done by students on front desk , nobody takes accountabilty to make a better place to live. Not worthy of paying so much rent, taking an aprtment at cheaper price is better outside."
"I would suggest saving you're move in condition form because they charged me for damages we never commited and refused to give me the correct form and just kept dodging me."
"Any positive reviews about this building have been written by the office staff. No one who lives here actually likes it. Let’s start with management. The desk employees in the office, God bless them they don’t have any power to do anything other than administrative duties and lockouts. The general manager thinks he’s all high and mighty, living in the nicest room in the building (low rise top right corner). He is probably the rudest person I have ever spoken to. As if he’s paying me to live there, and I set up the system where the office needs to store my package. MOST IMPORTANT PART HERE When I moved into my last room, where I lived for 2 years, my air conditioning was not working. 2 months after I put in a request for repair, I got a portable AC, one for the common area, and both bedrooms. In the winter we got a mini heater. Which they promptly took away in the spring. My portable AC had black mold in it, which caused me and my friends to get sick multiple times. When I moved out, the HVAC was finally repaired on the day I handed my keys in. Interesting… I also did not have hot water for the first year in my room. Finally Luis, one of their best employees, fixed it for me. No one else would do it. Be kind to Luis! He helped me not want to jump out the window by repairing things well and getting them done fast. Anything wrong in the room, he’s on it!! Anyways… To my relet situation. I signed a full year lease, but didnt want to stay this summer. So I chose to option to find someone to take my room. By NJ law, UC has to find someone to take my room. Even so, I found someone and in the process of reletting. My relet asked for a discount for my room. When I thought they were sending him the relet form, they sent him another lease for the same room, for almost half of my rent. This way they can collect on his rent, and I’d still be forced to pay… I found a second relet. I mentioned that he needed to move in on xxxx date. They purposefully waited until the last 30 minutes before closing on the last day, claiming the general manager was in meetings and too busy. I can hear him on the phone with his friends. And I see him waddling around the lobby. I asked to get my key back so I can at least help my relet move his things in. They denied me access to my room, while the room was still under my name. For this, I have written evidence. For all of this Intend to pursue legal action. University Centre staff, if you wish to meet me in the middle before I take this all to court, you have my contact info. To future residents, just live on campus or elsewhere. All good reviews I guarantee were written by staff members. The building is mostly empty. I see the same 40 ish people going in and out every day. No one actually thinks this is a nice place to live. Attached evidence that I am a real resident."
"After living here for a few years now i would NOT recommend this place to anyone. Here are a list of issues and concerns I've had for awhile now and do not get resolved. -office will resolve your issues with not your time. I have had multiple instances where work orders have taken over a month to be resolved. -depending on who deal with in the office, once again, you are on their time including receiving a package. Many times have I had a package delivered in the morning and it would take 24/48 and even 72 hours to pick it up after contacting about it. There are a few of the student staff who are quite rude when you have a problem and tell you there is nothing they can do instead of trying to work out a solution or something to help assist. Many times they refer to the line "there is nothing we can do" since they are bothered if you call or see them in person explaining the issue. -many instances at this particular location are not fixed or do not work as intended. Such as various elevator buttons in both the residential and parking garages, security gates which seem to break quite frequently. -for the price that you pay per unit, there are MUCH better choices than this place."
"I think this place is the perfect compromise between comfort and affordability. I chose the 2 bath and 2 room option and I did't have any problem. There is also a Gym in the Basement and a lot of study room and common space where you can go. In addition, every two floor you can find a laundry. The staff is very kind and they helped me a lot, answering all my questions (especially Tameeka Howell). I highly reccomend UC."
