As the Administrative Officer, the City Clerk oversees the acceptance, processing, and issuance of licenses and permits, including Raffle and Bingo Licenses, Alcoholic Beverage Control Licenses, Special Event Permits, and more. Additionally, the Clerk's Office acts as an information hub, liaising with municipal departments, the public, media, and city officials.

The City Clerk also serves as Secretary to the Governing Body, providing comprehensive administrative support to the Mayor and City Council. This includes legislative research, agenda preparation, and documentation for public meetings, ensuring transparency and effective governance.

As the custodian of Hackensack's records, the City Clerk manages all official documents, including ordinances, resolutions, and public meeting minutes. The office handles over 1,000 Open Public Records Act (OPRA) requests annually, maintaining the integrity and accessibility of public records.

In the role of Election Official, the City Clerk ensures the smooth conduct and certification of municipal elections, offering voter registration assistance and upholding election laws.
