"It’s a nice place to hop on a train to go to either Penn or Grand. First I saying this now: if I could rate it 4.5/5 stars, I would but because I can’t yet, I’m rating it 4. Ok so before you ride the LIRR, just remember: a lot of trains are late. The train times on the LED boards are estimated. Another thing to consider is getting the MTA train time app for tickets. The Train Time app lets you buy tickets from your phone and then activate them on the train. Transfers from Jamaica are available on most trains. Some trains bypass Jamaica. This means if you’re on a Grand Central train and you are going to Penn Station to get on AmTrack: make sure that the train stops at Jamaica. If the train doesn’t stop at Jamaica, get off at a stop before Jamaica and then get on one that does. If the train you get on stops at Jamaica and Penn Station then you can stay on the train you transferred to from the stop you just got on from. If not then get off at Jamaica and check the board to check the track number the train is on. Then go upstairs and get to the track you need to go to. Then when that train arrives, get on it and go to Penn Station. That’s how you would transfer to a Penn Station train from a Grand Central train. Overall here is the downsides of the platform: 1. The waiting room on the platform smells like pee, 2. Trains sometimes are more than 3 minutes late, 3. Tracks are on the same platform: 1 and 2. 4. It’s not handicap assessable, 5. There is not that much cleaning staff on the platform, 6. The AI sound system does not tell you anything about delays or why your train is cancelled, And lastly 7. The seats on the platform are not the best. Downsides of trains: 1. If you miss a train to grand Central, you’ll have to wait another 30 or more minutes before getting a train to Grand Central, 2. The seats are not that comfortable, 3. There is not that much room between seats, That’s all I can list. Overall the station would be a good 5/5 if the platform was better staffed, waiting room not to smell like pee, and the station was cleaned. It’s still a good station. So there is a whole review about it."
