About the Western New York Developmental Disabilities Services Office
Welcome to the Western New York Developmental Disabilities Services Office, a local government establishment dedicated to enhancing the lives of individuals with developmental disabilities. Located at 258 East Main Road, Fredonia, New York, we are a proud part of the New York State Office for People With Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD). Our mission is to coordinate and deliver essential services to New Yorkers with developmental disabilities, including intellectual disabilities, cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, autism spectrum disorders, Prader-Willi syndrome, and other neurological impairments.
At OPWDD, we are committed to providing comprehensive support through a vast network of approximately 500 nonprofit service providers. Our collaborative approach ensures that about 80 percent of our services are delivered by private nonprofits, while 20 percent are state-run. Whether you are seeking assistance to live independently, pursue employment, engage in community activities, or enhance your health and wellness, our services are designed to meet your unique needs.
Our dedicated service providers, care coordination organizations, family care providers, and care managers strive to deliver high-quality, consistent support across the state. We encourage community inclusion and participation, helping individuals with developmental disabilities transition smoothly from school to community living and find meaningful employment. Additionally, our Family Care Provider program offers a unique opportunity to welcome individuals into your home and provide nurturing care.
We invite you to explore our Care Coordination Program, where individuals with lived disability experience and their family members can share valuable feedback on care management. Our partnership with the SUNY DSP Microcredential Program offers aspiring Direct Support Professionals the chance to earn SUNY Microcredentials and national accreditation, emphasizing the critical role DSPs play in the lives of those we serve.
Stay informed with our new series of Front Door videos, designed to guide you through establishing eligibility and accessing our supports and services. We are dedicated to ensuring that our plans for supports and services are accessible, sustainable, and tailored to meet the diverse needs of the people we support.
Join us at our quarterly public meetings, where we share updates on services and engage with the community to gather feedback. Together, we can make a significant impact in promoting inclusion and enhancing the quality of life for individuals with developmental disabilities in Western New York.
