Reviews of Stony Brook Emergency Medicine
"I'll give this a 0 out of 5. However I cannot leave 0 stars. NOTE: At the time of writing this, 18 reviews (including mine) have been submitted. The rankings are either 1 or 5 stars, and I believe that is very important to note; especially because there are over double the 1 star reviews to 5 star. Pros: None. Cons: Malpractice. Doctors have a poor understanding of the medicines they prescribe. I have heard first-hand nurses laughing about sedating patients using Ketamine, Haldol, and Ativan all at once (this is a potentially lethal combination.) Their doctors, nurses, and counselors say they're "On your side," but they are not. Questions are asked in a way such that anything can be said about a patient. They care not for obvious physical evidence, nor the intelligence of the patient. Bipolar disorder is often diagnosed in order to give an excuse to sedate people there, (and other hospitals.) Their mental health section is horrific. They interview you in echoey rooms, forcing you into a corner specifically designed to echo your own voice. In my opinion, this is a way to trick a patient into speaking louder and thus give them a more severe diagnosis. It feels like a prison in there, and they treat you sub-humanely. This hospital does not want to aid you. They want your money."
"When a triage nurse doesn't take a list of current medications and medical conditions from a patient there are medical, legal, and ethical. No patients should be treated without a doctor knowing a modicum of their medical background. Stony Brook ED prescribed medications without having my full medical and medication history. I had to push them to take a list of my medications, and even with my insistence, the doctor didn't ask for dosages or frequency. It seemed as if the doctor did not take me seriously when I told him I had a good idea that I've been glutened and that this was the base of the problem. I had to advocate for myself to even get him to prescribe steroids for the rash that was an allergic reaction. The doctor told me I should wear compression stockings for the swelling in my calves, without writing a script for the compression stockings. I had a severe rash over the swelling and I don't know how he expected me to wear compression stockings over a rash. When I was brought to a room, I was left in a cold room in my bicycle shorts, and given no blanket or pillow or a nurse call button. No one checked on me between the doctor visits and I could have had anaphylactic shock and no one would have known. I understand that there is a shortage of good hospitals in this area but I would suggest you do not go to Stony Brook Ed unless you've broken something or been in a car accident. And then I would suggest you be transferred to another hospital for ongoing care."
"Worst Emergency Room Department. I went there hemorrhaging and almost dying and they left me for two hours in the waiting area knowing the amount of blood I lost. I was not ever told I could get unvaccinated blood either and was forced to take blood I didn’t know if it was vaccinated or not. You should be given a choice of what blood is going into your body. I could have died they made me wait for hours knowing I was in a life threatening situation. I was so uncomfortable and freezing I asked for a blanket and pillow they never brought me any and it was a horrible experience. I will never go to this hospital again! The staff is rude and should think about treating people better as you never know when you can be in a life threatening situation. I only took half of this transfusion that happened like 5 hours later and they forced me to take blood I didn’t want to take also."
"I’ve arrived at the ER at 2:30 in the afternoon with glass embedded in my eye. 6 hours later I’m still waiting to see a doctor. I asked the receptionist when I’ll be treated and still no answer. If I went to any other place, they wouldn’t have me sitting hours with glass in my eye that can permanently effect my vision. Please if you’re in actual medical emergency than I’d recommend going somewhere else"
"Been there 2 times recently Very disappointed. Doctors don't seem to Care. Need to have doctors that are more that are more caring and and understand stand to listen To the parent of the child . Most parents in these times would not be bringing their children to the emergency room unless they they absolutely felt it was necessary. I'll need to be blown off and sent home . Without Helping The child."
