"This place is the true definition of a contradiction. My father is there with a tracheostomy. His medical care has been fantastic. Every nurse I've interacted with is not only fantastic with us but also highly skilled as my dad was weaned off his ventilator quickly and now may be taken off the trach which is an enormous improvement. The problem comes with the care manager and the doctors, who you never see or speak to. His care manager Tiffany scheduled a care team meeting early on in his stay (doctors do not attend these meetings) and let me and my mom know my dad was headed to rehab and likely longterm care. A long discussion about placement was had and I spent the better part of a month trying to determine my dad's eligibility for nursing home care through his insurances as that is what they told us he needed. When I visited today I was told by Tiffany that while he was certainly improving, his trach means he needed a higher level of care than many facilities can give (which is expected and understandable) and since he'll be discharged soon we made our decisions on placement based on that need. Then, 2 hours later, I get a random call from a doctor telling me they have planned to take his trach off for a while and he probably will not have the trach by the end of the week. I voice my confusion because that was not my understanding and the doctor (Kyle M something) tells me I "don't sound happy" that my dad is getting better. I call Tiffany and speak to her about the differences in what I'm being told about his condition and care needs and this is ignored and Tiffany heavily implies, like the doctor, that I am not happy that my dad is improving. When I reiterate what I am not happy about is the fact that I am trying to discuss his care with him and make meaningful choices based on outdated and inaccurate information, she doubles down and tells me I don't seem excited he may have the trach taken out or the possibility of him improving or being able to go home. We has just told my father of the plan for longterm care after rehab and it devastated him. If I had known the plan was to take his trach out as he was doing so much better I never would have put that emotional burden on him and could have instead given him the great news. Tiffany also lied during this phone call and claimed the prediction of longterm care would never have been made at the care team meeting as they can't predict the future and the determination comes after rehab, and "the plan was always for him to go to rehab". Which, yes, the plan was rehab and then they told me longterm care! I did not choose the hobby of researching nursing homes and his eligibility for them just to have something to do, I did this because this is what they told me he'd need! I'm also sometimes told he is doing well and a symptom (hallucinations) is not a cause for concern and its super common and don't worry, and sometimes that it is a a concern and he's having testing for high Co2 as he is on oxygen and has already had Co2 poisoning once. Either way, what I care about is that I can trust his team to communicate with me honestly, and it doesn't seem they can do so which makes me now wonder what else they have not been truthful or forthcoming about. If something is a concern I don't want it brushed under the rug! I consider the fact that I don't feel I can trust staff to be as important as the way he is treated medically, as it's two sides of the same coin. I am afraid he is being discharged and I do not have an accurate representation of his true needs and that terrifies me. My concern about the lack of communication could have been easily resolved with a "Sorry" and promise to do better but they chose to make hurtful and ridiculous implications which leads to this review and warning to others. Speak up about your concerns and you may very well be told you must not care about your loved one! Adding: my dad was indeed transferred to a nursing home. So my initial reaction of confusion about the sudden complete 180 in medical opinion was ENTIRELY justified."
"I have been here for 2 and a half months and never had a problem with any staff, they have treated me well. The food is mediocre at best & that is the only bad thing I have to say. Norman and Elizabeth are great nurses. Nancy in wound care and Manny in PT are 5 stars themselves. Thank you Kindred for helping me!"
"Do not go there!!! My daughter was there for 28 days and we had to transfer her back to the hospital. There is no communication, no one tells you anything. They don’t know what they are doing. Doctors don’t return calls, bells go off for 15 minutes no one comes. PT is only allowed to get patients out of bed so on weekends patients lay in bed all day because PT is not there. They’re more concerned with putting on a gown because your coming in from outside, which is ridiculous!!!"
