Reviews of Sherri Kaplan MD
"Dr Kaplan is a thorough, very knowledgeable and caring doctor- the best!! And her staff are warm and professional."
"I saw Dr. Kaplan several times over the course of a year. Inordinate wait times to be scheduled for my first visit to treat a persistent skin condition. I've felt rushed at nearly every visit after having to wait in the waiting room for long periods of time. She once refused to inject an inflammatory cyst with an anti-inflammatory steroid despite my knowledge that it would leave a scar if untreated. She has also required visits for simple prescription refills. Barely looked at me over telemedicine before agreeing to refill. I had to pay the copay for a very brief consult. Today was the last straw. I called because another doctor told me he was worried about two irregular moles on my back. Receptionist said she couldn't get me in for a month, and didn't seem at all apologetic or sympathetic to my concerns. She hung up on me when I said I guess I'd have to find a new dermatologist because a month was too long to wait for something concerning. I've been extremely disappointed by this practice at every turn."
"If I could give zero stars I would. I have asked for an urgent visit for a lesion that could have been malignant. I was told to take a picture and send it via email, to Dr. Kaplan's email that is not HIPPA compliant. I was advised by the front desk staff that has no medical training, to put Aquaphor on the lesion and call back in two months. I was not given an appointment and the doctor refused to talk to me. Two months later when I called, again I was asked to send a picture to a non-secure, non-HIPPA compliant email. I was then given an appointment for six months later and told the doctor will be in vacation next month and cannot see me sooner. My son has seen her during the pandemic for acne. The telehealth visits were via regular zoom, again non-HIPPA compliant. At the first in office visit after the pandemic, for a routine acne visit, the first question she asked was what vaccines he has taken. Vaccines had nothing to do with his acne, and were not recommended to children at the time. Every time we had a regular, routine visit, we had to wait over one hour to be seen."
"Dr. Sherri Kaplan is an exceptional dermatologist and I am happy with her care. I had a problem with her staff today though. I originally had an appointment in July 2019. It was a followup from my annual checkup which was on January 15, 2019. By the time July came around, I felt I didn't need to followup (my face was fine), so I called to cancel and when I did, I also set up an appointment for my annual checkup for January 20, 2020. I purposely set it up on this day because I knew I would be off for MLK Day. When I arrived today, the woman sitting at the front desk told me I wasn't scheduled for an appointment. I told her I made the appointment in July when I canceled my followup. I asked who was the staff member who canceled my appointment in July when I called? She pointed at her colleague and said, "She did." I then spoke to that woman. She told me that I never called in July, that I canceled my July appointment on January 15, 2019. I said that doesn't make sense. Why would I cancel a followup appointment the same day I was here for my annual exam and made the appointment? She rolled her eyes, laughed a little and called another colleague over to look at her computer screen and confirm that I was supposedly incorrect. She tried to gaslight me! I told her that someone screwed up and didn't want to own up to it. A error was made because I definitely called in July. Computers are only as reliable as the person inputting the information. I was really upset because I waited over 6 months for this appointment and I traveled from the North Bronx. And never once did anyone offer an apology for the mix-up or even show the least bit of empathy. So from now on, I will be saving the appointment card and/or getting the name of the person I make the appointment with. I recommend everyone do the same."
"My former dermatologist who does lots of TV and magazine spots, referred me to Dr. Kaplan (her own dermatologist) after finding and removing a Basal Cell on my back. To say I am impressed with Dr. Kaplan would be an understatement. I am not one to write a review, however Dr. Kaplan is practicing at the top of her field, and in my many years going to see a dermatologist I have yet to meet another doctor who even comes close to her level of care. Worth noting the doctors I have seen in the past have been well acclaimed, yet Dr. Kaplan seems to operate on a completely different level. Her degree of professionalism and kindness married together are what make her such a great doctor. She utilizes technology which enables to maintains more precise and in depth analysis of each patient's unique history which is so comforting. Especially when Melanoma runs in ones family. Another reviewer complained about waiting too long for the doctor and although I understand waiting can be frustrating -- the blessing for that reviewer is that she was indeed waiting to see one of the best, if not the best, doctor in NY!!! Thank you, Dr. Kaplan!"
