"Our organization put on a youth performance showcase here and the staff were accommodating and supportive every step of the way! The upstairs space was perfect for our group and we had a great time!"
"I absolutely loved this theater! I was here for a... Black owned Small Business Saturday in Brooklyn event! I met so many beautiful, talented black men and women with their own established businesses. I can't say enough about the energy and respect and resources that i had the opportunity to embrace..... I love You All! Looking forward to the next one!!"
"Had the best time here. This place is in the neighborhood and I happened to walk by and they were having a FREE Game night. I had a blast. Black Lady Theatre has been closed for 25 years but they were able to open it back up and continue the legacy. It was my second time there but trust me it was well worth it! Fun time. Just hope that they fix the air in there because it was people in there dancing it got hot and was searching for water. But trust I enjoyed myself and I recommend you attend. They have several type of events so it was great to experience one. The staff very friendly, inviting and accommodating!"
"Brooklyn’s civil rights movement was overshadowed by Harlem’s. This place was a epic center of the movement that a lot of people should know about. #kingofcoffeenyc #sankofatafari #lionofthebx"
"So here's why I'm gonna always support and patronize this place, 1. The owners of The famous Slave Theater 1 historical landmark on Fulton btwn Nostrand and Bedford are co-owner of owners of The Black Lady Theater. Slave Theater 1 was illegally knocked down by the city of New York to build new developments along the Bedford Stuyvesant attraction. The owners have been and still are battling the city of New York for their property. Back in the early 60's and 70's the Slave Theater 1 served as a commune for Black think tank community meeting, hosted local films and plays by talented African American Playwright, Filmmakers, Poets, and other Activists needing a space to collectively and strategically gather to end racism, sexism, discrimination, prejudice and to just freely express themselves. I remember visiting the theater in my mid-late terns and as a young adult. There were vendors, events, and other festivities that brought folks together in peace and Love. The Black Lady Theater has been built as an honorary to one if the owners Mother's and ALL African American women who not only maintain households, raise children, and care for husband's, we contribute vastly to humanity, to society, send the world with our creativity, brilliance, and intelligence. Every week they host poetry shows, community gatherings, and various plays, and events. In fact my company is considering hosting our annual Women Of Color Nations Conference in this space. It's huge and has two separate spaces for rental. The theater and a more intimate bright 1500sft loft space upstairs. Quern Afua hosts Sacred Women classes and workshops here and I immediately felt that airy, inviting, and loving feeling I SO admire. Brotha Omar is the Event Manager of the theater and it's worth the trip to Crown Heights Brooklyn to experience Divine culture and healing."
