"I realize that Alan Miller could be a fairly common name, so just to be clear, this is the Alan Miller who is at UHS Endwell and cares more about race horses than people. If this isn’t the guy who owns a race horse, you can stop reading. I’ve got the wrong guy. The most uncaring doctor ever. So it’s 2014, and my father is getting blood tests for PSA, the results of which Dr. Miller then never bothers to look at. When my father finally hits the hospital, which Dr. Miller never bothered to set up—I had to send my father to Robert Packer in Sayre—his PSA is 2,000. Cancer all over his bones. So I’d guess that the PSA done just three months before was over 4.0, which is the warning sign you have cancer. So warning: Dr. Miller will order regular blood tests and then never look at the results. This is, apparently, just so he can bill you. Wait, it gets better—well worse really… Four months later. My father gets out of a nursing home in the hopes he can die at home. He’s got two weeks left to live. When you leave a nursing home you are supposed to have an appointment with your primary. So there we are sitting in a little examination room with Dr. Allan Miller. Like many people with a family member dying of cancer, I deal with this by deluding myself there is still hope my father will beat this. So I have tons of questions. Dr. Miller is typing away at his computer. My father is sitting next to him. I’m behind Miller. His back it to me. I tell him I have a lot of questions. As he continues to type away he tells me to ask my questions now. I said, “Well, maybe it would be better to ask these questions when you are finished typing so I have your undivided attention.” Dr. Miller finally turns around to face me and he yells, “Hey, I only have 15 minutes!” So my father only had two weeks left to live, but what Dr. Alan Miller cared most about was that he was only supposed to be spending 15 minutes with each patient. Gee, what a putz. What a terrible doctor and person. Go to anyone else. Go to a veterinarian—you’ll get better care"
