"Google should introduce 0 stars. Long story short my passport got damaged. I’m NOT a US citizen yet so I only carry a Greek passport. They refused to help me travel with a temporary document and be with my sick father. I was able to schedule an appointment for passport renewal. During the process somewhere else was getting the temporary document to travel right next to me… but they couldn’t give it to me…. Trapped outside my home country!! They NEVER answer their phones. They intentionally have them deactivated. They reply on emails after days or weeks. Extremely rude. Embassy and the consulate don’t give a dime for GREEK citizens. They’re government workers PAID BY OUR TAXES. No respect for us. They behave like kings."
"How can Greece allow itself to be represented in such a dismissive and disinterested manner by their New York consulate? There is no human answer by phone EVER, at least in my experience. The voicemail message says “for appointments go to our updated website at …” and then they provide this address so quickly it’s impossible to write it down. Really? After trying to call at least 20 times (three times just to get the two email addresses I needed to download documents), I decided to press the button for the secretary. This voicemail says “to leave a message, wait for the tone”. Ok! I was prepared to leave a message and the call was immediately disconnected. I called back, same thing. How shockingly rude. COME ON PEOPLE! Look at your reviews. I’m not looking for anything FROM Greece, I’m simply trying to update info that will BENEFIT GREECE. Look at my photo, it’s taken in Greece! This treatment is utterly ridiculous. Laughable. ANSWER THE PHONE!"
"The worst! My father was sick and going through chemotherapy, we had an appointment to make my mom his power of attorney. When we arrived they said couldn't be done bc his passport was expired. They saw how frail and sick he was and would not make the exception to start passport renewal process. Instead told him make another appointment. I emailed them several times for an expedited appointment to renew his passport bc he was so sick with cancer. They never responded! Now that he's passed we are trying to make appt that requires you email them first. Again no response. It's been 1 month. Where is the philotimo?"
"It is a challenge to get ahold of the Consulate center for obtaining citizenship. When the time comes, however, they do a great job and are very helpful and courteous. I had a mini scare with my birth day being incorrect on my copy, and only caught it when I left. The team was very fast with correcting it, and sending updated copy. Thank you again! My advice to you all going for citizenship: 1.) Keep your eyes open in your spam folders (due to a .gr email address) 2.) Be patient! It is a long process, but the wait is worth it 3.) Remember to obtain your Apostille seal from the state you were born in, and before that, get your birth certificate authentication from the county you were born in. Ευχαριστώ ξανά!"
"Literally makes me embarrassed to be Greek the way they treat people here and the way they communicate with you. I have been trying to register my father's death for over a year and like others here have run into so many issues and no one at the embassy wants to help. They are rude and unprofessional and will not answer any questions over email. Everytime I have spoken to someone I get different answers. Someone should take notice of all these reviews and try to do better. ΝΤΡΟΠΗ ΣΑΣ!!!!"
