"As much as I hate to do this because he really was a nice guy, I really feel like he overcharged me. First we discussed prices for the parts that I agreed to; he left and then started working on my car without my knowledge, so I just went on and let him continue because it needed to be done. But the labor for the installation of an alternator was insane. Every mechanic has a labor rate they apply per hour, and in this case, I feel like a price was just made up. I was referred by my aunt and wanted to support him because he was a black American man, but I’ll stick to my mechanic, who is actually great (not black), and charge 120 for labor. At least then, I know what I’m dealing with. Besides, my mind was all over the place, and I was stuck on my phone from getting bad news, so I wasn’t really as focused as I should have been. I only went there to get prices and did agree to his second option (quality parts), which we never discussed, to start working on the car, but again, since he did, I just let it be. I didn’t even have the money yet because my deposit would’ve cleared later on that day (yesterday), and I had to go through so much just to get it and pay him. Also, most of my money should've gone on parts, but for both parts and labor, it was only an $85.00 difference. I asked him his price for labor too and didn't get an exact answer, but the amount he had charged me for installation, which I'm sure is not the same, especially for an hour or less of working on my car, This is my second review in my lifetime: don't really do them. Usually, I just let things slide and brush them off. I guess the good thing about this is the one-year warranty on the parts, but hopefully they're straight. Oh yeah, just for the alternator alone (had my mass air flow sensor replaced too), from my mechanic and my uncle mechanic, they both said 450.00 for parts and labor."
