WAVE Wellness of the Hamptons

"WORTH THE HYPE! We’ve all seen it on our Instagram-the “before and after’s” of lymphatic drainage massage. My problem most of the time is that it’s on Rosie or Gisele or Elle McPherson. No people! Show me actual dough balls of fat being rubbed out, THAT is what I would like to see. Still, I couldn’t help but be curious. I’ve tried just about every massage in the book from your typical deep tissue to more esoteric somatic healing sessions. What intrigued me the most about lymphatic was not only the superficial effects it so loudly touts, but also the flushing of toxins and increased circulation. I’ve always suffered from bloat and water retention from my deep love of salt. I also suffer from endometriosis like so many other women and was curious how the massage would feel on my stomach. I’d heard good things about Wave Wellness in Sag Harbor through the “beauty grapevine” and so decided to give them a try. Springing for the Brazilian lymphatic massage which incorporates the use of wood instruments. The establishment itself is in an unassuming location in Sag right above Geek Hampton. The minute you walk in you feel a sense of tranquility and relaxation, especially after the hustle and bustle of busy Sag Harbor. I waited briefly for my masseuse on a chair that had a Higher DOSE heating pad, another Instagram star, so was excited to try (seemed like a regular ol heating pad that made me feel like I had to pee more than anything, but who knows, still a welcome touch;). Soon I was greeted by Kathy, my masseuse who led me into the treatment room. She was so kind and welcoming and wondered what areas I wanted to focus on. I told her my stomach, inside of my thighs that I’d been spying some not so welcome dimples on and the back of my legs. She let me undress and I climbed onto the table which was warm and lovely. As someone who is truly always cold this was a wondrous experience in of itself. Soon Kathy was back and began her work. From the instant her hands touched me I knew I had a winner. Deliberate strokes with slight pressure points were applied to warm the body followed by the use of the wooden instruments. The stomach massage felt wonderful and I could feel the always tense muscles releasing in my abdomen. The thighs were soothing releasing tension I didn’t even realize I had. Oddly one leg was much more tender then the other, something she picked up on immediately without me having to tell her. I’d say all in all the massage is a blend of deep tissue, acupressure and then whatever we want to call the magic wooden tools. After my massage I was in a state of bliss. I hardly looked in the mirror as was too half-asleep to care what it did to how I looked, as I felt like a woman reborn (albeit a bit stoned one and not in a bad way.) That night I definitely peed more, the massage clearly doing its work flushing out toxins as promised. However, the next day and now, many days later I can still see and FEEL a noticeable difference in my body. My hip bones are more defined, stomach flatter and legs feel just a little less jiggly. I would recommend Wave Wellness to anyone where they truly seem to know their craft. I’m going to try to go once a month if my bank account can allow it and think it would also be great in the colder months to help with circulation. If you are ever in the area you should honestly check them out. Unlike so many online trends, this one is seriously worth the hype and if we don’t invest in ourselves what do we invest in?
