"This doctor was recommended from two people. Having anxiety about going to the dentist made me feel better going to a dentist who made another patients experience happy. Had a nice conversation with the receptionist. Gave her all my personal information, she looked for an appointment. Once I told her my insurance her whole attitude and tone of voice changed. She told me she no longer had an available appointment and to try and find someone else. I explained I was called with the incentive to pay out of pocket and had no problem paying In full. She proceeded to tell me no it doesn’t work like that. She told me a past story from a previous patient who came in for the first two appointments and didn’t show for the last, when the last payment was due. I do not appreciate being treated that way nor being judged for someone else actions. I wouldn’t want someone to represent my business this way. So I will be happy to take my business elsewhere."
"Sorry that this is long. In my opinion, this dentist doesn't deserve even one star. A little background: I am a cancer patient. As cancer patients will know, the journey takes you to many doctors who vary in temperament. I've probably seen about 25 doctors in the past 8 years who have prodded, poked and pricked me. This info is included not for sympathy, but to show that I've been around many medical providers, and have not ever before left a doctor's office without being treated. When seated in Dr Shamul's chair, he says that he has not heard of my chemo drug, so he'll look it up on the internet, sounds reasonable, there is a computer in the exam room. After his research (about 2 - 3 minutes) he turns to me with great drama and says, "This drug can cause fatalities"........my response is that everything has side effects and I prefer not to discuss it with him. Told him my (wonderful) oncologist has given me the ok to have the procedure. His next proclamation is that I have a serious disease....thank you Captain Obvious! Again, told him my oncologist told me it is ok to have the root canal. After that, he berates me for being immune compromised saying, "What do you think root canal is? It is cleaning out bacteria in your tooth - you're asking me to do this to a person who is already compromised?" Why am I still sitting in his chair you ask? Because of the pain in my tooth - I want it taken care of! I tell him that I have a bad gag reflex and would like sweet air......another problem - he doesn't like to give it because people use it to get high, it doesn't mask pain - the cost is $150.00 PER SESSION.......it was HIS emphasis on PER SESSION, not mine. Then he tells me I should spend $195.00 on the CAT scan, when I refuse, he tells me I'm nickel and diming him.....sure, this is the person who charges $150.00 PER SESSION (his emphasis) and I am the nickel and dimer.......how much does a tank of nitrous oxide cost, Dr Nickel and Dime? There was some more back and forth, then I finally had enough and left. So here I am, a 64 year old cancer patient leaving a dentist's office crying. The front desk receptionist in Dr Shamul's office is a true gem - by interacting with her, you'll think you've reached a practice where you will be given empathic care....she is the best part of his office. In my opinion, he wouldn't have a practice without her, and I am grateful for her help."
"Dr. Shamul is the best endodontist I have ever seen. I was a challenging case and he worked meticulously to save the teeth. I had a chronic infection that was eroding the roots under the bridge. The cat scan showed the damage and it made it clear what was needed. Note that insurance doesn't cover the cat scan which costs $220 but endodontists are dealing with roots and nerves that are not easy to see and any issues such as infections or root damage are difficult to identify. Dr. Shamul spent almost two hours for each tooth. After he finished, I saw the Xrays showing the fillings inside canals in the roots and it was a work of art."
"I’ve been going to Dr.Shamul for more than ten years and He is the only Endodontist that I trust. I have horrible teeth but luckily with his knowledge and skills he has saved many of them. Unlike other Endodontists that (rush) and do the procedure in one sitting, Dr.Shamul follows evidenced based practice and does it spaced out. I can not say enough good things about him: he is positive, compassionate, good listener, good sense of humor, & professional. As far as the Cat Scan goes, the imaging has prevented me from having unnecessary root canals. Dr. Shamul was able to review the scans and discovered two teeth that were fractured that needed to be extracted. That’s right, the Cat Scan along with his exceptional knowledge prevented me from spending money on TWO root canals that I didn’t need. This doctor is very honest and is passionate about what he does. After all of my scary experiences as a kid and young adult, there’s nothing better than being in the hands of someone who legitimately loves what they do. I highly recommend him."
"I was referred to this office by my dentist for a root canal. I can't say enough good things about the doctor and the office manager! Dr Shamul was so nice and thorough and explained everything step by step to put my nerves at ease. The office manager is so pleasant which really makes a difference."
