"**Terrible Experience with Hertz Car Rental – Don’t Use Hertz!** I recently had an awful experience with Hertz that I feel compelled to share. The customer service was incredibly poor from the start. I paid extra for a bigger car but was given a compact instead. When I raised the issue, they offered me a measly $20 certificate that can only be used on location. Since it's cheaper to book online, this certificate is practically useless. To make matters worse, they handed me an electric vehicle (EV) without any prior information or guidance, even though it was my first time driving one. Charging it was a nightmare, with long waits at charging stations. Being in Manhattan, I had to drive very far just to find a charging station that didn’t charge an exorbitant day parking fee on top of the charging fee. When I asked the staff for help or even a question about charging the vehicle, their response was consistently, "I don't know or Google it." To top it all off, their phone customer service is non-existent. I tried calling multiple times for assistance, but I couldn't get through to anyone. This lack of support made an already frustrating situation even worse. Overall, my experience with Hertz was a disaster. **Don't use Hertz!** There are plenty of other car rental options out there that actually care about their customers."
"Edit: the Alamo Rental Car around the corner on Astor place and Broadway was extremely helpful and able to provide us with a car. *** Do NOT rent from hertz / this location if you value reliability. I reserved a car a week in advance and showed up to pick it up to find out there were NO cars. Customer service was extremely rude and could offer no answers or timeline on when cars would be there. There were ~10 other people there in the same situation. When I called corporate customer support, they informed me that when you reserve online the system is not at all synced to the inventory at the local locations… which completely defeats the point of making a reservation."
"Beware of Hidden Fees and Unfair Practices! I want to share my extremely unpleasant experience with this car rental company. On March 5th, 2024, we booked a vehicle through their website, which, according to the information on the website, we were allowed to drive. We thoroughly checked the information, as we are not eligible to rent certain vehicles due to our age. According to the website, we were allowed to drive the Chrysler 300 or a similar class vehicle. Therefore, we chose this model. When we attempted to pick up the vehicle on April 25th, 2024, we were informed that we could not rent it due to our age. Instead, we were offered a lower-class SUV. This alone would not have been an issue, but we had to pay significantly more for it, which we found extremely unfair. One should not have to pay more when receiving a lower-quality vehicle. We suspect that this is a deliberate rip-off. After this experience, we contacted the car rental company and filed our complaint. Unfortunately, we were only told that they understood our frustration, but nothing was done to accommodate us. Additionally, I want to warn others that 1-2 weeks after the rental, you can expect an additional toll fee (Hertz Toll) to be charged to you. After this experience, we cannot recommend this car rental company and advise others against renting from them."
"I used to rent from here years ago without issues, but just last Friday ran into the "no cars" issue (see other recent reviews) they seem to be having of late. To four ppl in line, attendant says, "Sorry but we ~just~ ran out of cars." @ 1030am! "It's NYU graduation weekend so we were overbooked." (From the other reviews looks like they got lucky with that timely excuse.) "We'll have more cars coming in, but we dont know exactly what or when." Doesnt matter if you had a reservation with Hertz."
"I reserved a car for 12pm, checked in for my reservation and received confirmation from Hertz that everything was fine, only to show up and be told that they didn’t have enough cars and that there would be a two hour wait. This happened to at least 5 other people as well. Management knew they were out of cars as early as 9:30am but didn’t notify anyone with a reservation. Absolutely ridiculous."
