Hertz Car Rental - 48th Street East Midtown Between 1st And 2nd Avenue HLE

"We confirmed that we could return our car before opening hours but when we got there, the lady refused to even look at us and pretended like we were not there. This woman at the front desk needs to be fired!"

"Got to the hertz rental at 11:00 on 8/17. Had reservations. There was a long line of angry people. They only had limited range EVs which didn’t work for anyone in line that was going out of town. The manager wasn’t doing anything to get cars from other locations and there was only one person behind the counter. We call hertz customer service and were put on a 20 minute hold. They had gas cars at LaGuardia. Customer service said they would not honor our reservation if we picked up at LaGuardia and that if we wanted one of those vehicles there would be a 250 upcharge. Seems like fraud…does anyone reading this disagree? Referrals to the NY, NYC consumer affairs bureaus will happen on Monday. Also the CFPB and FTC. 11:54 Am I posted my review a few minutes ago and it was immediately responded to saying that they valued my opinion. Of course they didn’t offer to fix the situation or reimburse us for our added costs as a result of this intentional overbooking and fraud. So to Hertz I say words are cheap (especially when they are produced by an AI BOT). Actions that cost money or have you back up your advertising and consumer promises…not so much. 8/19 - complaints filed with NYC, NY AG, FTC and CFPB. We will see how this goes."

"Not a serious company! Not recommended at all. I reserved a car with 2 weeks in advance. I paid all the additional to get a minivan because of the extra space that I needed. The day before the pickup day, I confirmed and made the check-in for this reservation. At the time of the pickup, they didn't have a minivan available. Actually, they never have minivan, so they just said they have the right to switch for a comparable car. They offered me an SUV (less space for luggage/less spot for people). I was in a hurry for the car at that time. They didn't offer the upgrade for the minivan for free. They wanted me to charge an abusive extra money to get a real comparable car like a large SUV. I got what I didn't pay for. I don't plan to use this company in the future, even if they offer better prices. As before, I'll use ENTERPRISE. They never let me down."

"Be careful when returning your car here. Returned the car with a full tank, the agent who checked my car said all good, and only when I asked for a print out I saw that I was charged for gas and that they claimed the tank was only 80% full. They fixed it directly after I protested, but this feels very fishy! Especially as they did not mention that. Did not get the category I booked (full size) as well, but a compact suv, with no compensation."
