"The course was in great condition. It is obvious the greens crew is competent and dedicated. It is a nice layout, challenging but fair. The changes in elevation make the two sides unique. I would definitely play this again."
"Oneonta Country Club is a very enjoyable golf experience when visiting Otsego County, NY. The course is in very good condition and very well maintained. The layout is very interesting with a few very quirky and challenging golf holes, but overall a fair and reasonable track to play. The tee boxes and greens are in excellent shape and the greens are undulating, smaller in size, and usually very fast. The fairways are both open enough and tight enough to be challenging with the kind of mature landscaping and planting you would expect to find on a 110 year old golf course. I have played here many times over the years, even though I live 90 minutes away and have a lake house about 45 minutes away from the course. In my opinion, the things that separate this course from many that I play is (1) the Pro/Director of Golf (Derek Walbridge) is a great guy who has lots of experience and always treats me like I am a regular member and a good friend more than only an occasional visitor and he knows me by name and treats my friends/guests like a great host, (2) the restaurant and bar concession in the clubhouse is run by a great guy named Paul and his staff and his food is always good, drinks are well made and reasonably priced, and like Derek, Paul is always friendly and a great host. We have shared some long conversations about golf and baseball and other topics and he is always a friendly enjoyable guy to engage in conversation with. The third reason I enjoy playing the course is the general membership. They are universally always friendly and socially kind and interested in engaging you in their conversations and they make you feel wholly welcome while you are at their course. Like I said the place makes me feel like I should be a member. The 4th reason I love this place is it's 110 years old and just has an enduring unique charm about it. The clubhouse and locker rooms are older and have a unique charm about them. I like the amount of water running through creeks on the course, the covered bridge which you cross several times and the unusual 10th and 11th tee boxes where you hit your tee shots for both holes before finishing the 10th hole. The par 5s are very challenging. The par 3's are long enough to be challenging without being so long you feel like you are playing a par 4 instead. The 18th hole is a par 4 with a choice of 2 greens they can use to vary the layout and the 17th hole is a horseshoe shaped long par 5. Golfing here is a great experience and in the summer months there is a nearby youth baseball facility and you can hear the ongoing cheers and chatter from the adjacent baseball fields that run along the 2nd, 3rd and 4th holes (travel baseball and the Cooperstown Baseball Hall of Fame are major attractions in the Cherry Valley/Otsego County area). If you want a reasonably priced, well-maintained, challenging but fun golf experience in the Otsego County area then I highly recommend Oneonta Country Club. In addition, no matter how busy this course is, I have always experienced rounds of golf between 3 to 4 hours in duration. For me this place is a wonderful location for a great round of golf you and your friends will enjoy and if you take the time to say hello to Derek, Paul or any of the friendly and outgoing membership at the course you will just enhance an already awesome golf experience and come away wishing you had the great good fortune to be a member rather than just an occasional guest like me. Great place, cannot recommend this place strongly enough to anyone who cares about having a fun golf experience. Thanks again, Jim Dombrowski Delmar, New York"
"Had my wedding at the Oneonta Country Club this past weekend. Paul and all the staff were extremely supportive, accommodating, and generous throughout the entire process. Paul made all of my requests a reality and dealt with some last minute ceremony changes due to weather. He made sure everything was centered, displayed the way we wanted, asked if I was comfortable throughout the entire process, and even helped hang decorations and take them down! As the night went on, staff were always around to take care of our needs yet were not intrusive and did not take away from the intimacy of the night. When we asked what time we should end the reception, Paul and his staff were happy to let people leave on their own accord and we let the wedding come to a natural end. It was absolutely perfect and we were at ease the entire time. Although the ceremony was inside, Paul and his staff made it perfect and beautiful and I couldn't be happier! It was a perfect venue, affordable, and so beautiful. The food was absolutely incredible and all of my guests were comfortable the entire night. If you need a venue for a wedding, the Oneonta Country Club is perfect and everyone will make a stressful day into the most memorable and beautiful experience."
"I've been playing this course since I was 12 years old. It's not the fanciest in the world, but the greens are well maintained, the course is in super shape and there is a decent restaurant and bar for some eats and drinks after or before the round. The price is VERY reasonable for the caliber of the course. It is a great place to play and is challenging, but not overly tough. Give it a shot if you are in Oneonta."
"First time to the club for me and my Dad. He hadn't played in the decade but puttered around great. I found the course to be in wonderful shape. A bit wet in spots but with the weather this spring, that's almost anywhere. The greens are smooth and manicured. Worth the drive for the price we got for using the WBNG Golf card. A great deal on nine rounds of golf. The staff was excellent and made you feel as though you were a "member for the day". Very unique, you play 10 and 11 tee shots as you don't want to return to the shared tee. We had a blast and will be back soon."
