"Vegetable bun was cold so I couldn’t even eat it, which was very annoying because I was super hungry and looking to eat something, not receive a cold and hard bun, that also came with no sauce? Almost every place that sells veggie buns gives it with a garlic soy type of sauce…it’s just bland without it unless there’s a big filling to dough ratio…with these veggie buns, there was a lot of dough and not much filling in comparison, so sauce is needed! The cold soy milk was so thick it seemed like it was going bad…I’ve never had soy milk thick like yogurt before and I have had soy milk from a lot of places around flushing! They’re always out of veggie dumplings by 3pm, I’ve come 3 times throughout May to try their veggie dumplings and they’re always sold out unless you want frozen ones which I do not until I try the fresh ones! I will maybe be back for the veggie dumplings, but my partner, who is Chinese, doesn’t want to come back. Clearly this place is better when you come early before or around 12pm, and probably better for meat eaters."
"Talk about a different kind of fast food experience! Zhu Ji isn't like your typical restaurant. There's no actual storefront, meaning no place to sit or go inside. You order outside at the side of a building. It can be a little chaotic when ordering since pedestrians are actively walking through, but you just have to make sure to stay out of the way of the foot traffic and be assertive when you're waiting to order. A lot of locals will order and converse with the workers in Mandarin, but don't be intimidated if you don't speak the language. You can order just fine using English, and they have English on the menu next to the Chinese. I'd say just don't get too complicated with the order or your demands if you're not fluent. We ordered our food to go and only had to wait about 5 minutes to receive everything. You can't beat these prices, the speed, and the taste of Zhu Ji. I also highly recommend asking for chili oil and black vinegar, especially for the dumplings or scallion pancake. If you're looking to make a meal out of $10 in New York City, I highly recommend making a stop by Zhu Ji Dumpling House!"
"Was kind of confusing trying to order the Sheng Jian Bao - I'm convinced that no place in NYC actually has the proper Sheng Jian Bao since this was more just a small Bao Zi. Wished that it had been crispier but pretty tasty nonetheless."
"This place is tucked off the main avenue and is a bit of a hole in the wall but they truly have the most incredible fried pork dumplings. Perfectly juicy and flavorful. As if it could get any better, it’s only $4 for 8 vey filling dumplings which feels like a steal. This hidden gem is totally somewhere to check out if you value cheap and delicious eats."
"This place is tucked off the main street and can be a little hard to find, so look for the red awning. I only had their pan fried bao there, which was $2.50, for 4! That's incredibly cheap and it's so hard to beat the value. That's not the only thing that's cheap there either so there's not much you're losing for just trying the food. The price aside, I thought the dough was a bit thick and doughy for 生煎包, the pan fried bun but this isn't a big issue. The meat filling was porky and flavorful, the buns soft and warm, perfect for the cold. Be aware however that they have no seating in or out so it's mainly a takeout place or somewhere to eat on the streets."
