"He had six weeks to talk to my surgeons, which he said he would in the initial appointment and never did. He also made me wait 6 weeks to just pass me off, done by his nurse. He is rude and dismismissive, with zero compassion. Doesn't follow up. Pick anyone else."

"Recommending anyone else. Too arrogant and unavailable to offer any kind of medical care. For whatever reason, he tops the list for UPMC primary care referral. There are plenty of gastroenterologists in the area, who practice at UPMC facilities, if that's your preference. Seriously, get referred to ANYONE ELSE."

"I know that sites mostly publish negative reviews. To keep the record more balanced and to speak honestly, Dr. Abo has been my gastro for almost 20 years. I have never experienced anything other than kindness and gentleness, openness and honesty. I have had numerous colonoscopies, and have IBS and several other issues. Always treated well, with his deep knowledge. I say KUDOS!!!!"

"My 20 year old daughter went to Abo, referred by PCP doc, and we needed have the procedure quickly as she was away at college, and suffering from unknown maladies. We had the procedure at Magee. She went in, I waited in the waiting room. I WAS NEVER CALLED BACK TO DISCUSS RESULTS. SHE WAS SENT OUT TO THE WAITING ROOM AND SAID, "WE CAN GO NOW". No one asked me to sign a discharge release, nor to see who would be driving her, etc......I know protocol since I've had the procedure multiple times. I asked to see Abo. Nope, no can do. I asked to see a nurse, or someone? Nope, no can do. We left without and discharge papers, no results, and my daughter still suffers to this day. Full disclosure: UPMC and Abo are still sending me bills for items I cannot get answers on. $440 here, $240.33 here, and it goes on, and on. I fight these not because I cannot afford them, but because it is morally wrong, and they will not stop. I pay my bills. But, they do not pay attention. Do not go to this doctor. I had to give one star or this would not be posted. It should be a minus 10."

"My PCP referred me to Dr. Abo because I wasn’t pleased with my previous GI doctor. It was a 4-month wait to get my “new patient” 1st office visit. It was then cancelled by the office because Dr. Abo won’t be available. No offer to reschedule it. I have questionable diagnoses which is one of my reasons for switching doctors. I have been waiting weeks and made multiple phone calls to the office, per Dr. Abo, requesting him to at least review the medical records I sent months ago. Nothing. I recommend you find a doctor and practice who do the job properly."
