Nestled 18 miles southwest of Pittsburgh, McDonald is a charming borough that spans Allegheny and Washington counties in Pennsylvania. Historically, McDonald was a bustling industrial hub with factories producing bottles, oil-well drilling tools, and flour-mill products. Today, the area continues to harness its rich natural resources of oil and coal. The borough boasts a population of 2,282 as per the 2020 census, with 1,644 residents in Washington County and 638 in Allegheny County.
Government Structure:
McDonald operates under a structured local government that includes an elected mayor, a seven-member borough council, and an appointed borough manager/secretary-treasurer. Additionally, the borough’s tax collector is an elected official. All elected positions, including the mayor, council members, and tax collector, serve four-year terms. The council operates on an at-large basis, representing the entire borough.
