"In 2021, we reached out to a variety of deck builders. We were looking for something rather basic, perhaps a 16’x20’ rectangular shape. Nothing fancy. The quotes we received from various builders were just that, simple. However, James from SelectDecks had a different vision. He said he can build a 16’x20’, but he envisioned something different other than a basic design. My wife & I appreciated the attention to detail & cool ideas. The communications and expectations of when our project were to begin & finish were reasonable. The original timeline he provided for completion was 5-7 business days. Definitely reasonable. Now unfortunately begins the negatives which there are plenty of. For starters, it wasn’t made known to us ahead of time that they were going to subcontract the Amish. The Amish do great work with WOOD, but it was apparent that their experience with composite decking was a bit laxed. But okay, we can live with that since we’re getting a deck in the timeline expected. Fast forward 7 weeks, all of the scraps and piles of discarded materials remained in our yard which killed our grass. A Porta John that the workers utilized also remained in our yard. I had to call the Porta John company directly to have them retrieve it. We also caught the attention of our HOA for having such a mess in our yard that we were fined. James was apologetic and came back 7 weeks later and hauled all of the scraps away. He said he’d come back to complete the rest. Fast forward to April 2024 AND OUR DECK IS STILL INCOMPLETE! The final punchlist items were never addressed and a final walk through NEVER HAPPENED. When James and his crew retrieved the scraps from our yard and cleaned up the job site in early Fall 2021, he left several items behind needed to finish the job including pieces of siding to fix holes from sloppy sawing, several Trex boards, pieces of white skirting to enclose the deck to the ground, and HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS OF TOOLS! After reaching out to James via email, phone, and even social media to see when this was wrapping up, he blocked us from everything. The corporate Trex office tried to help, but since builders like SelectDecks do not represent Trex, they could not do much to help. James claimed to the Trex corporate office that everything was done and that we are being unreasonable with our expectations. We can let the photos & videos do all of the talking here. Does this look like a complete deck? Is leaving hundreds of dollars of materials & hundreds of dollars of tools in our yard indicative that a job is done? James said he’d come back & never did. Now we are stuck with an unfinished project. I have all of the pictures, timelines, and emails proving this. I’ve reached out to other Trex installers (4 to be exact), & they all said the same thing. “There’s too much work that needs done to fix all of this & since it’s not our work, we don’t want to touch it.” We 100% acknowledge that we still owe money ($1,266.15 to be exact). What we owe is that small percentage at the end that is paid after the final punchlist & walk through are complete per our contract. Almost 3 years later, it still has never happened. Likely a solid day’s work from SelectDecks is all that is needed. If the final punchlist items were taken care of, we would have gladly paid our balance, left a 5-star review & recommended to all of our family, friends, and neighborhood to hire SelectDecks. Instead, here is what we have in April 2024… -Holes in our siding -Crooked floor boards -Uneven/asymmetric railings -Hundreds of dollars worth of tools and materials still sitting at our house -Dead grass & holes in the yard that they said they’d fix -An unreimbursed fine from our HOA for having trash in our yard 2+ months -Sloppy edge-work I’m not saying that SelectDecks only does bad work. They have tons of photos to prove otherwise. But if this is how they treat us, this is how they could treat you. If they ever come back & make this right, this review will go away. If the review remains, then you know they never did the right thing."

"Over one year ago (April 2023) we met with James to have him build us the deck of our dreams. We were told deck would be completed by summer of ‘23. Fast forward to today, May 2024, we’re out $100k and this is all we have to show for it. Zero communication, blatant ghosting, complete ignoring of calls/emails/texts. I can’t urge you enough to chose someone besides James and Select Decks."
