Reviews of Forbes Hospital Emergency Room
"If I could give this hospital a 0 star review, I would. I’ve been here for 9 hours plus in the emergency waiting room. From 4pm to 1:30am is how long it took to finally be put in a trauma room. People that came in after me are being seen and leaving before I can even speak to a doctor. This is no longer an emergency room, they wouldn’t see me until I had a panic attack from waiting for so long. If you want to keep your loved ones safe and seen by a practitioner, DO NOT waste your time coming here, please."
"! Nightmare experience. Presented with chest pain. Was called into triage in a timely manner but waited 6 hours for any further communication. Six hours of waiting not knowing if I had a attack. When I finally got into testing nobody told me anything about what they were doing or why. At 9pm my husband I got more info. I was told they wanted to keep me. I was not prepared. It was too late for my husband to drive home to get me anything. It only gets worse. Horrible attitude from nurse in observation unit. Went 24 hours without water or foof without an hy explanation why.Doctors in charge of my keep me waiting most of the day. Was told I was being discharged when at the last minute I was told no. One more therapy was needed. So here I am spending another sleepless uncomfortable night in hades. The one positive note. The daytime staff at the observation unit. I felt unheard and in the dark about my health issues. Not something patients should have to endure This ER needs to learn that patients need to be informed about what is happening to them"
"This is a pathetic excuse for an emergency room where you'll spend hours and hours in the waiting room just to get a bed in the hallway where your family can't go back with you. The staff does nothing. I'm not sure how it can retain its status as an emergency room. Additionally there is no parking. Edited to add- 6 hours after arriving we were informed that visitors are supposed to have a badge so security is essentially non-existent. Edited- they kicked all visitors out of the waiting room because there's no room. Seems like they could be seeing patients faster or get a bigger waiting room. Customer service and security staff have their badges covered so you can't see their names. Patient rights number on the wall goes to a different hospital."
"Stay away from this Emergency Department. We have been here four times in the last six years. Each time was highly disappointing. But last week was the worst. I am a nurse and know what is good and what is poor diagnostics and treatment. My husband came in very weak, dizzy, with low blood pressure and abdominal pain. I asked for a gurney in the waiting room, and they said there were none. I said he’s going to pass out. I have to get him flat on the floor. Another waiting. patient was going to help me lower my husband from the wheelchair to the floor. All of a sudden a gurney was available. Once on the gurney, he was pushed into the hallway of the department. No one saw him for 45 minutes. It was drafty snd he was cold. I had to ask for a blanket. Finally a PA asked me what was going on. I told her his chief complaint, and then I said, I had to give her some background, because my husband has a very unique abdominal anatomy due to Experimental surgery back in the 80s. I told her how frustrating it is, bringing him to the ER and having him misdiagnosed because his anatomy is unique. She said, “don’t take it out on me.” Those were her words. I explained I was not doing that, and I just wanted her to know his background. She seemed to adjust her attitude. He really needed to be hydrated and it was an hour before they started an IV. Since he has had kidney failure with urinary retention in the past, I recommended they scan for a residual urine. They got enough that he needed to be catheterized. He asked that they not do it in the hallway, and the nurse became irate. She found a room and wheeled him in, and proceeded to catheterize him in a very rough manner. He began to bleed, and he said it hurt terribly. An hour later, no urine came out into the bag. I was concerned and suggested there could be a clot. It took the nurse along with a colleague, 40 minutes to irrigate and remove a large clot. They did a urine test and found a UTI. Now they had a diagnosis, they gave him an antibiotic and sent him home. Not once did anybody listen to his chest. They did not put him on a monitor. They checked his blood pressure twice in several hours while we were there. He is 84 years old, very weak, history of kidney failure, low blood pressure, abdominal pain, and now blood in urine. Four days later, he was admitted to West Penn Hospital in Pittsburgh, and was immediately started on an IV, had blood work and was put on a monitor that showed he was in AFIB. He was admitted for treatment and improved within 24 hours. He could have been diagnosed with AFIB four days earlier at Forbes Hospital had they done their due diligence and followed best practices. My husband’s nephrologist called to check on him and asked why he had visited the Forbes Hospital, because there were no notes in the record. There were only test results and discharge note that he was on an antibiotic for a UTI. At Forbes Hospital, he never was seen by a doctor only by the PA. The flat plate of the abdomen was read incorrectly due to his unique anatomy. The team did not know what an ilieal pouch was and insisted he had an external bag. They were shocked to see his abdomen snd stoma. Instead of paying attention to my explanation of his anatomy, they dismissed me and made incorrect assumptions. The nurse that cared for him had a very bad attitude. We asked if he could drink water and they said yes, but we waited an hour and 10 minutes to get a pitcher of water. You expect more from a waitress in a restaurant This is not where you want to go if you are sick and are unsure what is wrong with you? The diagnostics are very poor, that people are very rude, and the outcome could be very negative."
"I arrived at 7am and was the 4th person in the frigid room. Granted earlier patients may have been being tended to. I was actually seen at 10:30am. I was kept in a hallway by the elevator and ferried back and forth to various testing sites always to return to the hallway. Another patient and their spouse were also there. There was NO privacy. I was told my diagnoses in that hallway in earshot of other people. I think that's a HIPAA violation. The very sweet staff did keep me in linen blankets."
