New Castle Solicitor

The New Castle Solicitor, also known as the City Attorney, serves as the chief law officer for the municipality of New Castle, Pennsylvania. Situated at the Municipal Building on 230 N Jefferson St, the office is dedicated to managing all legal matters pertaining to the city. The City Solicitor is a non-elected position, appointed by the city council upon the recommendation of the mayor, and serves a term concurrent with the mayor's four-year tenure.

To qualify for this esteemed role, the nominee must be well-versed in legal matters and admitted to practice in the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania. The responsibilities of the City Solicitor are extensive and crucial for the smooth functioning of the city's governance. These responsibilities include drafting and preparing ordinances and resolutions for the council, negotiating and preparing contracts, and handling collective bargaining agreements. Additionally, the solicitor defends and prosecutes claims on behalf of and against the city.

Beyond these duties, the City Solicitor provides invaluable legal guidance and advice to all elected and appointed officials, as well as department heads within the city government.
