"The 2 books on compost toilets are worth their weight in gold and should be mandatory study material on every high school up to university level related to science, biology, ecology, environment and everything in between. We "westerners" are such a bunch of water/nutrition wasters. If you run the figures and facts, it mounts up tremendous. Want to change the world ?? Knowledge is key, read these books and "just do it". It really does work !!"
"With no prior slate roofing experience, I was able to quite effectively replace slates as well as valley and chimney flashing guided by The Slate Roof Bible. It is aptly named."
"Mr. Jenkins’ book is inspiring, uplifting and entertaining. I’m a recent purchaser of a home with a slate roof in Michigan. Before this book, I worried greatly that our 94 year old slate roof was near the end of its life. Now I’ve come to understand the likely origin of our sea green, purple, and red mix slate, and that despite years of some questionable repairs, it could very well last us a lifetime. Now I only worry about where in Michigan we’ll find a roofer who can care for the roof as much as I do and help us maintain it. For example, our roof ridge has been rubber cemented/tarred over. The one roofer listed on slateroofers.org in metro Detroit told me over the phone and without coming to see our roof that it probably should be removed for an asphalt shingle in no more than 20 years. Why? Because it’s older than 75 years. Maybe I’ll have to do the maintenance. This book is certainly educational enough to give me a fighting chance."
"DOES NOT INSPIRE CONFIDENCE. I ordered copper step flashing, copper nails and lead wool to repair what a professional contractor got wrong. Getting these materials shipped to me required far too much work on my part and I still have not received the copper step flashing. At this juncture, expect to be writing this off as a "should-have-known-better". My copper is somewhere, .... lining someone else's pockets is likely."
"For all tools slate, Jenkins is the source. cutters, rippers and other specialty tools. Weird items like slate roof snow guards that break up the avalanche coming off the roof so someone's neck doesn't get broken. Finials, that most American of roof architecture, are here. Remember how old and historical homes had ridges covered with architecturally designed metal sculptured in patters like waves or castles or some other pattern. A lot of slate, wood and asbestos roofs had them. The people at Jenkins are honest, knowledgeable, efficient and fast. When you need a very special slate tool, or solder and a soldering kit, in a hurry, they'll get it to you."
