"This was the best dental experience ive ever had. Dr. Rob was kind, competent, personable, and understanding. BGS was able to get me in on a saturday and perform an emergency procedure to stop the pain. I am beyond impressed with everyone there. It was an also a comfy facility, they played music and gave me a weighted blanket to sooth my anxiety. I am now a permanent patient and they send me home with a little gift bag. "I found Big Gay Smiles and immediately loved their approach. They have evening and weekend hours, and will be expanding their hours in September. They’re super close to public transport (and a fabulous rum bar), and they have a variety of services they offer, plus they take insurance and have a wellness plan option. Their website was informative, social media channels were fun, and they donate a portion of their proceeds to a cause that has impacted my family and is near to my heart. I booked an appointment, and Tyler walked me through everything. His warmth, personality and professionalism were immediately evident throughout all of his communications. My appointment came and I was nervous. I’ve only been to one dental practice my entire life. In rural NC. With the same hygienist who cleaned my teeth for 38 years before retiring. My previous dentist was like family; I get anxiety with new situations, so I was a mess. That all went away as soon as I walked through the door. The space was exciting: lots of cool art, crystals, fun lighting and the best part: NO EASY LISTENING/ Yacht Rock. MUSIC TRYING TO DROWN OUT THE SOUND OF DRILLS. The music is a curated play list from their patients, and we listened to everything from Prince to Whitney Houston. I received some cool sunglasses to block out the light and away we went. The staff was fun, respectful and handled my dental anxiety, and questions with patience. My cleaning was thorough, as was my exam, and all of my questions were answered. However, mad props to Dr. McKernan. He was likable, funny, and knowledgeable about his practice. What he didn’t have experience with, he immediately got an answer for me, and Tyler was able to get a referral for me with 72 hours. But I really appreciated the public health approach Dr. McKernan (and staff) took towards my comprehensive health. They knew I had a history of abnormal and high blood pressure and took a reading. We talked about oral cancer (including doing a screening), we talked about preventative health measures that would impact not only my oral health but overall health as well. It was just such a personable, professional appointment that had me book another appointment on the spot. And I received a fabulous bag of swag - and your girl loves a good swag bag. What a fantastic experience! I can’t wait to continue with them."
