Mahoning Dispatch Living History Tours
On Saturday, June 8, 2024, the Canfield Historical Society will host live-action walking tours inside the historic Mahoning Dispatch Newspaper Office. Participants will be transported back to a time when journalism and newspaper printing were at their peak, with costumed actors vividly bringing the history of the Mahoning Dispatch to life. These tours will take place at 23 S. Broad Street, Canfield, and are scheduled for noon and 2 pm. To ensure a personalized experience, visitors are encouraged to make pre-appointments by emailing [email protected] or calling 330-533-3458. A $5 donation per participant is requested to support the preservation of this historic landmark.
Historic Homes of Canfield Presentation
Join the Canfield Historical Society at the Canfield Library on May 9th at 6 pm for a fascinating presentation on the historic homes of Canfield, Ohio. Attendees will learn about the architectural evolution and the stories behind some of the town's iconic homes. The event is free and open to the public, with no prior registration needed.
Spring Lecture Series
The Canfield Historical Society's Spring Lecture Series features a range of intriguing topics:
- "A Virtual Road Trip on Route 66": On April 11th at 6 pm, enjoy a virtual journey along the iconic Route 66 with Jerry Dixey sharing his personal adventures. The lecture will be held at the Canfield Library and is free to the public.
- Mahoning County Infirmary Lecture: On March 14th at 6:30 pm, learn about the history of the Mahoning County Infirmary, also known as the 'Old Pogy'. The lecture will be presented by Canfield Historical Society President Suzie McCabe at the Canfield Library.
Fall Lecture Series
The Fall Lecture Series kicks off with Stacey L. Adger on September 21st at 6 pm. Stacey will explore the history of African Americans in the Mahoning Valley using her family's experiences as an example. The lecture will take place at the Canfield Library and is free to the public.
Guided Tour of the Mahoning Dispatch Building
On June 8th, enjoy a free guided tour of the historic Mahoning Dispatch newspaper building, located at 23 South Broad Street, Canfield. The tour will be led by Canfield Historical Society President Suzy McCabe and will start at 6 pm. No prior registration is needed.
Canfield Trivia Night
Test your knowledge of Canfield history at the Canfield Trivia program on May 11th at 6 pm. Hosted by Suzanne McCabe, this fun event will be held in the large meeting room at the Canfield Library and is free to the public.
