"Went to the ER for possible blood clot. Waited 4 hours to be seen for them to tell me ultrasound isn’t there so they sent me home and had me come back the next day for an ultrasound. Didn’t do lab work or anything. What ER doesn’t have an ultrasound? Should’ve just went elsewhere don’t waste your time."
"Good: There is seldom much of a wait here, and the doctor we've seen all three times seems pretty competent & he has a rather good bedside manner, though a little quick to push pretty strong drugs that aren't always necessary & may have undesirable complications / medication interactions. The intake nurse has always been wonderful - thoughtful, diligent. My elderly relative has a lot of comorbidities & basically a garbage bag full of different pills they have to take for everything, but the intake nurse always makes sure to carefully & painstakingly update the list which is more than I can say for most hospitals, let alone ERs. The doctor does seem to read patient charts & familiarize himself with known conditions, and make critical deductions accordingly, so that's an amazing novelty. He's sharp & analytical. Not good: Almost none of the doctors or staff wear masks or gloves, even if they are actively treating patients in other rooms with communicable diseases & coughing fits. This has been consistent throughout multiple visits, and though I don't know if in all cases the coughing fits were communicable, I know in fact it was in at least one case because I overheard a nurse relaying the patient caseload & details as the shift changed. This is very concerning as my relative & I both have respiratory disease, and though we mask up, last time they asked my relative to remove her mask for some of the procedures, while they themselves had no PPE & had just been from the room of a COVID patient. (Even with the full vaccination, COVID nearly killed my relative last time due to COPD.) Few are more sympathetic than me that having to work in a mask sucks, and breathing is difficult in them (I have had to wear them long before COVID at times because of the lung damage and wear them for 11 hours in the ER waiting to get lab results), but even just putting on a basic surgical mask before interacting with other patients could potentially save lives by minimizing some amount of exposure, and that was commonplace in ERs long before the COVID situation for good reason. It's also a concerning indicator of potentially other hygiene issues. If the staff is too lax to so much as wear masks and gloves, what's the risk of getting a dirty needle (which caused my uncle to go deaf), or someone not washing their hands between patients? No one observably washed their hands in near us the entire 11 hours we were there last time. All that said, there are a lot of truly abysmal hospitals between here and Charleston, and this one is still the only one I trust to take my family members to in an emergency if Charleston was too far, because so far no family members have ever died, been maimed or developed chronic health problems due to complications from malpractice being seen here, and the doctor is smart and thoughtful and that's more than I can say for the other local hospitals. Very glad there is an alternative to Raleigh General."
"Mary Beth should not pursue nursing as a career anymore. This woman has not an ounce of compassion in her body. Thank god for the radiology tech, Morgann. Morgann got me a wheelchair, took out my IV and assisted me with paperwork to be discharged while my “nurse” whispered about another patient to a coworker and just watched me cry in pain. She then told me I needed to “stand up and sit back down to feel better” although I was at the ER to be seen for severe back pain and numbness in my leg and COULDNT stand. I would not wish this experience in my worst enemy and the ONLY reason I’m giving them 2 stars is because of how nice and amazing Morgann was. Do better Mary Beth and if your heart is no longer in nursing, you should find another job."
"Colossal waste of my time and energy. Spent hours there for the very disinterested doctor to tell me what was blatantly obvious and to tell me to follow up with my PCP in a week and get an MRI back home. My PCP is in Colorado and I won't be back home for over a month. Pretty unimpressed with this place."
"Great experiance here. We were traveling to NRGNP and our little guy needed care. The wait was a bit long but expected at an ER. The nurses and doctor were amazing and so kind."
