About the Business
Step aboard the Steamship William G. Mather Museum and embark on a fascinating journey through maritime history! Located in the heart of Cleveland, this restored 618-foot historic ship offers a unique glimpse into life on a working Great Lakes freighter. Built in 1925, the Mather invites visitors to explore from stem to stern, revealing its enormous cargo holds, brass and oak pilot house, elegant guest quarters, and a four-story engine room.
Walk the decks and marvel at the engineering feats that played a pivotal role in transforming Northeast Ohio into an industrial powerhouse. Experience the golden era of steamships and discover the innovations that made the Mather a marvel of its time.
2024 Schedule:
- May, September, and October: Saturday - Sunday, noon to 5 p.m.
- June - August: Tuesday - Friday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Saturday - Sunday, noon to 5 p.m.
Please note that the last entry is 30 minutes prior to closing.
Important Notices:
- The Mather is open for the season! However, please be aware that both the Science Center and the Steamship William G. Mather are closed on home Brown game days.
- The Steamship William G. Mather will be closed on Saturday, June 22 due to a heat advisory for the safety of our staff and guests.
Tour Information:
- Your visit to the Mather includes general admission to the Science Center and admission to the Mather after the tour.
- Closed-toed, closed-heeled athletic shoes or boots are required for the tour.
- Guests will be provided with hard hats and safety glasses to be worn during the tour.
- The tour is available for ages 10 and up only.
