"Visited this site on a slow day and got a personal tour of the house and property by the park ranger. The house is beautifully restored right down to the custom wood in the living room. The size of the house is impressive even to this day. The family cemetery is a must-see. This might not be a young child's cup-of-tea, but history buffs will remember this site."
"Thomas Stone National Historic Site is rich with history, and yet so few even know his name. Signer of the Declaration of Independence, member of the Maryland Senate, and acting president of Congress, Thomas Stone is a man everyone should know. This site offers tours of Habre de Venture. Be sure to read the website for scheduled times. Also note that the visitors center is usually closed while tours are scheduled. The Park Ranger was a wealth of knowledge. Ask questions during the tour. The more you ask, the more there is to learn. The grounds are amazing for a walk/hike. Be sure to dress appropriately for the weather. Rain or shine, this is a gorgeous place to be. Pack a lunch and a blanket and enjoy the grounds. Pets are allowed on the grounds but not in the buildings. Port Tabacco, Maryland ....go check it out"
"Another excellent place to learn about someone I did not know. Thomas Stone was a Maryland Patriot who voted for and signed the Declaration of Independence. The short walk around the grounds was nice to see where he lived and where he is buried."
"Beautiful historical site with some good Maryland and US history. The park ranger guide was informative and knowledgeable. If you're in the area this spot is worth checking out. I would visit this spot again and I would recommend to others to stop by."
"So much history I didn't know about Thomas Stone and his family. He signed the Declaration of Independence and played a major role in Maryland's political history. Most don't know about him because he wasn't a military leader but rather a quiet lawyer during the American Revolution. Maryland soldiers heading into battle had the uniforms, food and ammo they needed because Thomas and his family insured they were all equipped to fight. Maryland's militia were the only ones during the war that were so well supplied. If you're into history, you'll find the tour enlightening!"
