That we understand why our forefathers sacrificed so much to hold to those principles that made possible the civil and religious liberties we enjoy today. "Beautiful monument, but A LOT (I counted five) of off leash dogs. It isn’t enough to tell people they must leash dogs. This needs to be enforced. Common courtesy isn’t respected anymore, so there need to be fines for people rude enough to treat a national monument like their own back yard. Who looses dogs at historic sites?!The signage is clear. The names of those aboard the Mayflower are listed. There is a ramp up the hill, so this is fully accessible. Plenty of parking along the loop around the hill. There’s a nest atop the statue. I wonder how long it’s been there, because a quick google search said that six years ago an osprey who nested there. Once the dogs left with their respective owners I hobbled up for a Quick Look (almost left without seeing it at all due to being fragile and people not leashing their dogs). “Faith” sits above all. She is surrounded by: Morality, Law, Education, and Liberty.” Each seated embodiment of those principles has companions: morality (prophet and evangelist), law (mercy and justice), education (wisdom and youth), liberty (tyranny, peace). Then there is a quote from William Bradford."
