Reviews of Washington Park Zoo
"My mom and I went a couple weeks ago. There are a lot of awesome things about the zoo. The peacocks roaming around was awesome because my mom is obsessed with them. I loved the wolves and capybara too. The number of different species of monkeys was great too, and they were adorable. There were some things I didn’t like though. First, the layout is kind of confusing. I feel like most zoos I’ve been to have a ton of signs to point you in the right direction and they’re set up in circles/loops that make it easy to know where you’re going and you won’t miss any of the animals unless you purposely try to avoid them. This zoo has a lot of side paths though and sometimes you don’t know where they lead until you get there. Certain paths were also very uneven or had a lot of steps and several times there were no ramps to take instead, or at least none that obvious. This made it hard for my mom who was mobility issues. The second thing was that the leopard geckos were extremely overweight. Most people might not notice and think they’re just meant to be chonky, and they are cute, but I have a gecko and I know how they should look and what being so obese can do to their quality of life. They may not be as big of a draw as the big cats or the monkeys, but they deserve to be taken care of just the same so I hope they’ll fix this."
"My son and I were very impressed with this zoo. Not too large and the setup of the pens were well designed. Easy and fun to navigate. While it isn't huge, it has many different accommodations for a variety of animals. There were animals that we don't have options of seeing back in our big city zoo (Detroit). We enjoyed looking at the wolves, eagles, leopard, exotic birds, gators, turtles, tortoises and iguanas. The budgie area that you can walk through was pretty cool, too. The capuchin monkeys, other varieties of primates, grizzly bears, peacock, zebras, emu and wallaby seemed the most active. While it's geared for younger visitors, it still made a great impression with us older "kids". Just wish it wasn't so hot (mid 80's and humid). Many of the animals weren't very active during the time we stopped by. Who can blame them? All and all, it was worth going and I would definitely go there again... but during the fall and springtime, though."
"The zoo is very beautifully decorated and the animals look well cared for. However, I needed to use a wheelchair and found it difficult to navigate. It is technically wheelchair accessible, BUT the terrain is really steep in some places and the sidewalks are very uneven. I understand the zoo is built on a hill, and some things are unavoidable, but there were several times where I was unable to pass and had no choice but to walk. It wouldn't be possible for someone who isn't able to get out of their chair."
"This zoo is a must stop if you are in the area! The grounds are amazing! The observation tower was an absolute climb! The little niches, cozy corners, and photo op opportunities are all over the place. The animals are well cared for and you can tell the staff was happy to see us happy. It was incredibly hot the day we went, but there were shaded spots and indoor spots with AC. The peacocks just roam around the park, so enjoy their beautiful feathers close up!"
"Went to the park from Memorial Day weekend. It's so adorable.Such a cute place to spend the day.We bought tons of stuff at the gift shop.We really enjoyed ourselves. It was such a lovely little zoo. For the people that are out of town and don't know you have to pay twenty dollars to enter to park and then you have to buy your tickets for the zoo. Come on a warm day and bring your swimsuit. You'll be able to enjoy the beach."
