Reviews of Freighters Eatery & Taproom
"I don’t understand some of the complaints of other reviewers. Do they ever go to restaurants besides Chipotle? Regarding the prices: this restaurant is located in a scenic area right by the bridge, and it is targeting mid to upper mid level of the market. Of course it’s not going to have the huge portions and lower prices of the diner down the street from you. Also, prices for food and restaurants are up in general over the past few years. Wait time: go at peak times, wait longer. That’s normal. I had to wait 20 minutes for a table, and food came out within 20 minutes after we ordered, on a Saturday night in the summer. That’s all very normal, unless you are used to drive through. The quality of the food: I had the strip steak that comes with mashed potatoes and vegetables. It was a solid medium rare, good seasoning, good crust. The vegetables had good texture, the gravy was flavorful. On top of all of that, I got to see some freighters at Freighters. Menu variety? Vegetarian options? Most of this is standard American fare or adjacent. Blame dining culture in the Great Lakes area if you want, not this restaurant for responding to what the majority of the market wants. A restaurant owner can’t be too quirky when they have the overhead of a desirable location."
"My sister and I came to Port Huron for the day and looked up dog friendly places because we were bringing her golden with. She found Freighters on the Fido App. They were dog friendly, however, not worth any money spent there. The servers were very nice, nothing against them at all!! All we ordered was an appetizer and a salad to share.. which took over 40 minutes to come out. The stacked BLT salad ($13) and the tomato and cheese app ($14). The BLT salad didn’t have any bacon and was smaller than most restaurants side salads. The tomato and cheese app was tasty but had virtually no mozzarella. Neither were worth the price or the wait. The margaritas were okay taste-wise but were mini and not worth $10. The picture is after we already started eating but you get the gist. 2/10 do not recommend"
"Really great service for our group of 14. The views are spectacular. Love watching the ships go by. The food was delicious with gluten-free offerings."
"We had a great dinner inside the restaurant. The server was very friendly and the food was full of flavor. We shared the fish tacos and shrimp linguine. Both were the perfect amount of food and were not greasy or heavy. Very well done! Also we were seated in a spot that had a great view of the water and bridge! I would definitely recommend checking out this spot!"
"Stopped in for lunch and had to wait a few minutes to be seated, We had seats by the window which was nice as we could look at the river, I ordered the Michigan Salad which was okay, but not anything to write home about or memorable. I thought the menu was limited if you are a vegetarian. The views are nice, but you might get better food and a larger variety of food somewhere else."
