Reviews of UAS Egan Library
"The staff are always willing to help. Every person has been charismatic and actively fulfill my requests."
"The UAS Egan library has that scholarly air about it that makes it so unique among libraries. An added benefit is its magnificent collection of Native Southeast Alaskan literature. I highly recommend it's quiet atmosphere."
"I work in this beautiful library on the Juneau campus of the University of Alaska Southeast and I'd like to address the complaint from the one star review about noise. Our event space in the library is the only place on campus for large events. This results in a couple of special events taking place each year in the library during open hours. The event described above was the "Be the Change Youth Conference" a one day youth leadership event organized by local teens, held on campus during UAS's Spring Break. We have sound dampened study rooms and two conference rooms students can reserve if they need an extra quiet study space. We also post notices in advance of events so students can make other arrangements on these rare occations where the library is noisier than usual. I'm very sorry this student had such a disappointing experience. We will do our best in the future to maintain a welcoming environment for all."
"This library is usually awesome, but the staff does not enforce the rules. There are often people answering phone calls, talking loudly (even the librarians), eating, and generally being disruptive. Generally not too bad, but you get the occasional person who is oblivious and self centered. Today there is an incredibly loud get together for highschool students going on in the main area, complete with some lady singing into A microphone, kids running around, playing tag, and being very disruptive. I realize this is a public library but it's also a university library and I pay a lot of money to go to school here. Myself and many other students expect a quit study area and are disappointed when UAS fails to enforce their own rules and allows a gathering of this sort IN A LIBRARY of all places. I wish I could attach an audio file of the noise, it is ridiculous."
"I personally love libraries, and this is by far the best library in Juneau. The collection is vast, the place is never crowded (that would be almost impossible, given the size) and there are few other places you can go to get that quiet sense of being literally surrounded by knowledge. Plus there's a little coffee spot right outside the door. That's always good. For those who don't care for books, the online resources are also plentiful, and backed up by the kind of bandwidth you only find at a university. If there's a downside, it would be that the library hours are tied pretty closely to the university school year, so that for example the largest library in Juneau shuts down for "winter break.""
