Reviews of Wilderness Place Lodge, All Inclusive Alaska Fishing + Adventures
"WPL is an unmatched lodging experience AND an unmatched fishing experience. The staff is over and above thoughtful and work as a team to ensure everyone gets what they want and need from their trip. The culinary staff is exceptional and they even offered a salmon-focused culinary course, teaching the differences between the species you’ll encounter and emphasizing sustainable fishing practices in both the sport and commercial fishing worlds. Lastly, our guide, Ryan, was unbelievably easy to fish with. He was positive, offered improvements or different techniques in a professional, light-hearted way, and tailored the entire schedule to us and what we wanted. This is the best kept secret of Alaskan fishing and I can’t wait to come back some day!"
"Get ready for an incredible experience. Start by having a staff that is genuinely concerned about your comfort, needs, and wants. Everything is coordinated for you except your hotel stay the night before or after. Get your Fishing License online before you arrive, or they can process it for you when you are there. The food is delicious, consistent day to day with a presentation worthy of a Michelin rating. My guide was always on time and went the extra mile to make sure I made great catches. Cabins are Rustic Alaska with Memory Foam Mattress, Mosquito Netting, and repellent. They also have netting that goes over a hat to prevent the little pests from biting your head, neck, and face. The fishing was good because of two days of rain and the constant overcast this year due to El Niño. Once the sun popped up the bite was on! For lunch you have the choice of coming back to the lodge, packing sandwiches and even of doing a river campfire cookout. Travel to the lodge is coordinated with Rust’s Flying Service that has a flotilla of sea planes. There is a cabin with a lake for total privacy and a 1/2 mile walk to the river to fly fish or fish from the dock for Pike. It has a caretaker to tend to your needs. This trip fulfilled a dream of a lifetime for me. I trust I can return in the future. Photos don't say it all."
"I was particularly struck with the quality of your staff, everyone was friendly and attentive. The food was outstanding, with the chef & team coming out to talk with us every night after dinner. The lodge staff was always asking what else they could do to make our stay even better. I was also really happy to see how our guides approached being on the water. They were considerate of other anglers and showed a lot of respect for the fish and other wildlife. As someone who has a high ethical standard when it comes to hunting and fishing, this was something that I was worried about. I was also a bit worried since no one in my family had any real fishing experience, but the guides did a great job making us comfortable - even with a fly rod."
"We just returned from from a visit to Wilderness Place Lodge and cannot get over how special this place is! My wife and I and our three boys, 18, 16, & 11 had the time of our lives! The minute we got in our float plane and took off out of Anchorage we knew we were in for an incredible experience. We saw moose from the air as we flew into the Alaska wilderness. After landing on the river we were greeted by our guides Mason and Braydon. They were patient, instructive, encouraging, and dedicated to us catching fish which we caught a ton of! Rainbows, Grayling, & King Salmon. They guided us through out our 4 day trip and quickly became our friends and were a wonderful part of the trip. The both are expert fly fishermen and were eager to share their knowledge and passion. Mason can cook a mean salmon over a campfire too! Upon arrival at the lodge were were greeted by an incredible group of lodge staff, Colleen, Clair, Dave, Racheal, and other chefs who saw too it that we had the most amazing meals while were were there. The food is top notch and were pleasantly surprised at just how good it was coming from a remote small lodge. Not just good - outstanding! The lodge staff are very accommodating and personable. They make you feel so welcome and see to it that you are always comfortable. Its a very friendly and relaxing environment. Also, if you get a chance to go to the outpost cabin I highly recommend it. Alex, was amazing and saw to it that we were safe and enjoyed our overnight at the outpost. I can go on and on... We truly had the time of our lives while enjoying the Alaska outdoors, eating great food, sleeping in very clean and comfortable cabins, making new friend, memories to last a life time and catching a ton of fish! Thank you so much! We will be back!!"
