Reviews of Thomas Coyne Survival Schools
"We did the 3-day basic survival skills course and it was one of the most fun weekends we have had. We now feel much more comfortable in dealing with any adverse circumstance encountered in the wilderness. Adam and Josh were incredible instructors and people. Highly recommend."
"After spending a considerable amount of time researching on the internet for the best survival schools in America, I kept noticing Thomas Coyne Survival Schools was on every list. As a mountaineer and former martial arts instructor, I wanted to find a school that could augment my skills and knowledge, and has it ever! I have been with Thomas Coyne for a year and a half now, learning wilderness and urban survival, navigation, tactical, medical and other valuable skills while making new friends along the way. The instructors are fantastic, especially Thomas, Adam, and Justin. They work you hard but are at the same time very friendly and patient. If you get stuck on a particular skill, they will take the time to assist you without slowing the rest of the class down. The “classroom” settings are in beautiful outdoor locations in forests, mountains and by lakes. You really get far more than what you pay for!"
"My family and I took the 1-Day Critical Skills Survival course, taught by Adam Mayfield, and really enjoyed the experience. Adam is knowledgeable with real-world experience and has a great sense of humor. We especially enjoyed the hands-on nature of the course (building a shelter, practicing with a signal mirror, building a fire, etc.). This is an excellent course for people who are new to outdoor survival skills. The information that Adam provides could literally save your life! We can't wait to take more courses with the Thomas Coyne Survival Schools and hope we will have Adam as our instructor again."
"If you're someone who has a lot of outdoor experience or someone who's brand new to it all, this school has something for everyone. No matter your skill level, you're bound to learn some great practical techniques and knowledge that you can take on any adventure. There's also a great confidence boost that comes with completing the courses. The days are long and full of survival exercises, but it goes by fast. I also really appreciate they share their recommended gear that has served them well in the field. From knives and stormproof matches, to first aid gear. The instructors are very personable and ready to jump in and offer advice/help when needed. They really want you to learn and succeed. I'm just starting my year membership and my first course was the 3-day Survival Certification Course. To me, it's the perfect place to start. The skills learned there will most certainly apply to many of the other courses offered. I can't wait to do as many as I can."
"I just returned from a three day Civilian SERE course and I could not be more excited to write a review about this survival school. The most recent course was intense and full of learning experiences. The course instructors Joe and Justin were exactly what was needed: knowledgeable and motivational. I have been a member of this school for about nine months now and have yet to write a review. Of the multitude of courses offered, I have had the pleasure to take eight of the courses (and some of them multiple times). With each experience I come home with something new: a skill, technique, confidence, etc. Regarding the instructors: I mentioned Joe and Justin already at the top, but there are so many more great people to learn from here. Thomas, Sheila, Adam, Canaan, and Rob all have an immense love for what they do and it shows as they interact with their students. All of them are extremely knowledgeable, patient, and kind. Each has their own way of teaching. I think that is why I sometimes come home learning something new. The classes are fun, but they are hard work too! It took me a couple survival weekends to finally make an ember and start a fire with my bow drill! It was an amazing feeling, I felt so accomplished. Adam (instructor) was at my side keeping me motivated, not letting me give up, until it happened. The membership came with a free guest pass for a class, so I took my husband on a Weekend Survival Skills Intensive. We had a blast together sleeping in the debris shelter we made together. I have learned so much over these past nine months. Truly addicting. This was by far the best Christmas present from my husband ever! I may be looking into the instructor series next! Thank you Thomas Coyne. You and your staff are amazing. I cannot wait to continue working with you all."
