Reviews of Alaska Native Medical Center
"Had a reoccurring condition that they ignored and passed off as "nothing". A week or two later, I had to return for the same condition that WORSENED over the week. Only THEN did they DO SOMETHING. Useless workers, staff, and overall care. My condition has been bothering me for two years and I have had to go in and out of the hospital for two years. The fact that they ignored the pain I was experiencing before it got worse is messed up."
"I recently had to escort my sister into ANC for a surgical procedure. We were placed in patient housing and I am pleased with most everything regarding patient housing and it’s amenities to include food service. There could be food items with less sugar or better options for people who don’t want high sugar items. Otherwise the room is decent, service up front is fast and mostly efficient! I am so happy with the pleasant experience and it’s nice to see our people are treated with respect and cared for these days. Of course the ER is whole different animal but this positive review is in regards to patient housing."
"My wife went here becuase she kept bleeding after her period. We didn't think much of it since there was no pain but the bleeding persisted. 3days later we decided she should go to the hospital. They run bunch of test and we find out she is pregnant and send her home. Once home she develops pain in her lower abdomen region to the point she is lying in bed and sleeping on and off for 2 days. She goes back once more and they draw blood again stating certain levels of something is increasing and its fine. She had a miscarriage and the levels should go back to zero over time and to go home. She voiced that she had abdomen pain and was hurting but chose not to look into it any further. She comes home and again she is sleeping all day and waking up randomly expressing she was in so much pain. I exclaim to her that this isn't normal and that she needs to advocate for herself and her health when speaking with nurses and doctors and to not let them gaslight her becuase we only have ONE life. I tell her she needs to go to the ER! Because we live in the valley we were hesitant of driving to Anchorage for this emergency and chose to go to Matsu Regional. Once there they inform her that she has an ectopic pregnancy on her right side and she needs surgery asap. I feel that ANMC staff within the hospital are not knowledgeable in thier area of "expertise". Not all but a good handful. If they are knowledgeable then I presume it's a lack of care. I feel let down by this hospital. My wife was sent home to possibly die from life threatening factors when having a ectopic pregnancy. They spend thousands of dollars to make thier hospital look nice with constant remodels. Do they care more about how the hospital looks or that of patients? 2023"
"The last time i went to the ER was for my IUD pain. The pain was so bad that I kept wincing while I was walking. So my significant other and my dad brought me to the ER. But once I was in the room the doctor evaluated me and told me I was fine. The whole time I was there I knew that they probably would've told me I was fine because that's as good as "free" medical care gets. They send you home with ibuprofen and nothing else. BUT the whole time I was there, the ER doctor was telling me that most women don't want children that's why they go with the contraception that they choose to not have children. And that wasn't the case for me, I want to have children eventually just not now because I'm young. And he ignored the fact that I was in actual pain and just gave me a speech about having CHILDREN??? Assuming I don't want children but the side affects of the IUD causing me pain turned into a speech of women wanting to have children VS. having actual medical pain that was ignored. He also assumed that I wasn't in pain??? Being a native woman with free healthcare is great, but having that "free" medical care with doctors who don't even care is such a disgrace."
"So impressed with the care I received for cancer. During a tough time in my life the Doctors and Staff at Alaska Native Medical were professional, and kind. I'm still under Dr. screening to make sure the cancer is gone. Bless you for the quick and thorough action to save my life. Thank you is to small of a word to describe my family's and my gratitude."
