"JD and his crew at Wild Trout Outfitters in Big Sky Montana are world class. I was up against a tight deadline to book a half day and I called the shop and JD was able to make it happen. The shop was nice with Hopper, the shop pup, to greet us for some belly rubs. All the gear was provided (except fishing license) but JD showed us over the phone exactly how to get it before our trip. We went at the end of December so it was cold, but Wild Trout Outfitters provided all the gear we needed for our half day. All their gear is top quality stuff from Simms waders and boots to Orvis rods and reels. If they make it, Wild Trout has it. They even had some loner gloves, hand warmers and hot tea. Nick was our guide and he has enough fly fishing knowledge to fill a book! I’ve been with other guides that just take you out to the fish and that’s about it. Nick was much more than that. He covered the “why” behind the “how” of various techniques. He had some top secret rigs he learned guiding in Alaska that had us catching fish right away. My wife and I couldn’t have been happier with the day and the results."

"I recently went on a full-day float trip with Wild Trout Outfitters in Big Sky, Montana, on the Upper Madison River. Brenden was my guide – he's one awesome guy! He showed me all the essential points of fly fishing. He also has a great sense of humor (we were pretty much cracking up the whole day), and as a complete novice to fly-fishing, he had me catching fish in no time. The drive from the Outfitters to where we put the boat in the water was a little over an hour drive, but it flew by. I had great conversations with Brenden the whole way there and back, and that part of Montana is off-the-rails scenic. We drove past Hebegen Lake and Earthquake Lake, we saw a grizzly bear, and all sorts of rugged, beautiful views. Back on fishing - once I got the hang of it, which was pretty quick (thanks, Brenden!) I caught a bunch of fish, including a few brown trout and a beautiful rainbow trout. The weather was terrific, even with a few rain showers – the rain just added to the "you're 100% in nature now" experience. I'm not gonna lie; I had pretty high expectations and, as a non-fisherman, no small amount of anxiety. With that said, the whole trip blew me away! I know I'll be talking about fly fishing to anyone who'll listen for weeks! I highly recommend Wild Trout Outfitters and Brenden as your guide for anyone looking for an unforgettable fly-fishing experience."

"I can not say enough good about this trip. Our family did the 6 passenger boat trip with Travis. We wanted a fun day on the lake with fishing, boating, tubing, just a little something for everyone and Travis delivered. He was so awesome. (Like, we want to adopt him and take him back to TN with us!!) Lunch was amazing as well!! Brats, burgers, Homemade potato salad!!! Definitely a high light of our Wyoming/Montana summer vacation."

Thanks to their instruction, patience and encouragement, we learned a lot, caught fish and had a blast. We also spent a full day touring Yellowstone with Matt, where we saw breathtaking scenery and plentiful wildlife (wolves, bison, elk, bear), and even enjoyed a picnic on Yellowstone Lake. "I booked a half day trip last minute, thanks to JD for getting me in. Luke was my guide & he was awesome. I had a previous half day trip with another outfitter earlier in the week that was not nearly as successful. Luke got me on the fish immediately. I caught Rainbows on the first 3 casts then it was on to the Whitefish & even caught a Brown. As we moved to another spot as it warmed up to 15 (lol) we finished the day with 3 more beautiful Rainbows. If you visit Big Sky & want to catch fish then go to Wild Trout Outfitters, JD was great & ask for Luke as your guide you won't be disappointed!"
