Reviews of Visitor Center - Fossil Butte National Monument
"I thoroughly enjoy going to this place. We have now visited four or five times in the last few years. It was the beginning of our journey and getting to know the outdoors better. It seems like we always bump into people here who have a great understanding of the region and the geology of the region. That seems to make a difference for curious people. There are a number of fossils that can be viewed as well as casts of some of the more famous fossils that have made their way to the National Museum of Hatural History and the Field Museum of Natural History, for example. Taking the drive up past the visitor center with a high clearance vehicle opens up beautiful sunset views."
"We were not expecting a fossil discovery on our honeymoon, but it sure was a fun detour! We spent a couple hours looking at all of the incredible ancient creatures that roamed this area in the distant past. The best thing was the INCREDIBLY detailed life-size dioramas of what life may have looked like! They were spectacular, and you could tell how much time and effort was put into each leaf in the diorama. We were amazed that this lovely Visitor Center was free! Outside the visitor center is a vast land full of wildlife- we saw antelope, mule deer, and HUGE herds of elk! Overall we had a wonderful visit and will be coming back of we're ever around Kemmerer again."
"Gaetano "Tano" is a wealth of knowledge, energy & enthusiasm about all the fossils & geology of the area! What a treat to have our own personal tour of the exhibits since we were the only ones there! The fossil exhibit at the visitor center is extremely well done, informative & a must see! Hopefully Tano will be available to show you around too! We did the scenic drive afterwards. We saw a rabbit, some pronghorn Antelope, & 2 large elk along the way. It was too late in the day for the hikes but the sunset was amazing!"
"If you love fossils and more than just dinosaur fossils this is a must stop place. We were fortunate to be there when a ranger was polishing and removing debris from its surrounding rock. It was so cool to watch! They have great displays of the animal life that existed in this area when it was once a swampy wet lake region. If you love visiting small national monuments or fossils in general don't bypass this."
