Reviews of Exposure Alaska
"Don, the owner/operator of Exposure Alaska (@exposure_alaska), and MICA Guides (@micaguides) put together a killer itinerary - “backpacking” in the backcountry, canyoneering, and ice climbing/repelling on Matanuska Glacier. We recharged at Alpenglow where we were treated to a wonderful dinner. Huge thank you to our guides - Don, Levi, Ford, and Bret - for teaching and helping us throughout our adventures, and thanks to the whole crew at base camp for their hospitality."
"Exposure Alaska is 5star in every way. From the beginning and throughout our trip, they tailored an experience that was perfect for your group. The overnight ice climbing experience, newly offered just this year, was magical. We hiked deep into Matanuska Glacier, departing from Alpenglow luxury camping, where we spent the evening the night before. We were provided with great quality climbing gear, and prior to our trip it was clear what we should bring to make the trip comfortable. Once we were deep into the glacier, we were taught the basics of ice climbing. We then climbed different lines the remainder of the day. Guides and interns had prepared a campsite on the Moraine rock on top of a flat spot of glacier. We had a warm meal, cozy campfire. The new morning breakfast and coffee were prepared, and we were ready to start ice climbing, already over 4 miles deep into the glacier! Day two our muscle memory really kicked in, and each of our groups members successfully climbed a 70 foot line out of a deep moulin with a blue pool at the bottom. The hike back later that day was bittersweet, as the time spent on the glacier was true magic. Once we arrived back at Alpenglow, a hot tub and cold beer was waiting for us to unwind and reflect, with a view looking out at the base of the glacier and mountains in the backdrop. Highly recommend!"
"This was an unforgettable trip - hiking, camping and ice climbing on a glacier! Don was excellent at hearing what we wanted to experience and delivering exactly that through top notch guides. I would never have thought i would climb a 70-foot wall of ice descending into a blue pool a day before I did it. Brett and Luke our guides were fantastic and the other guides who met us out on the glacier and set up our camp were phenomenal. We stayed at Alpen Glow following the trip to the glacier and had a hard time leaving! Luxury tents and a hot tub overlooking a glacier - not sure you can top that. Thank you so much!"
"For our ten year wedding anniversary, my wife and I were torn between choosing Hawaii or Alaska. We are so glad we chose the latter and that we chose Exposure Alaska to make our experience the most memorable for us. We decided to choose the Matanuska Getaway, which is only a 3 day trip, because we figured we would want to go explore other parts of Alaska on our own. We had such a blast with Exposure, we wish we had booked a longer stay with them. The owner Don, was so helpful throughout the entire booking process, and recommended places to see and stay during our time after Exposure. The views of the glacier, the wild life, the planned tours and our amazing guides, all surpassed our expectations. They were awesome! Our guides were professional, knowledgable, friendly and we felt like close friends by the end of the trip. They were able to adjust our experience based on our skill and physical ability levels, which added more excitement to our trip. Our safety was paramount at all times and we had full confidence in their abilities to guide our adventure. Moreover, the food at the camp was great! We were expecting beans and weenies and other cliche camping food, but what we got was some great Alaskan cooking: Fresh Salmon, BBQ chicken, homemade breads and granola, among other things. In addition, while there was a lot of stuff to cover on our daily agenda, there was also a lot of time to relax and unwind. It was the only vacation where I didn't think about work, unless someone asked me about my job. Normally, when we go somewhere we still have home somewhere on the mind, but not here. Finally, this experience didn't seem touristy. After we finished our trip with Exposure, we spent a few days in other parts of Alaska, and the tours we did just weren't the same."
"Amazing Experience! Some people see Alaska but with Exposure you really get to experience it. We did the double exposure tour and it was just challenging enough to push us but not overwhelming. The guides take care of everything so you still feel like you are on vacation and not trying to coordinate all the logistics of everything. They provide amazing food (they literally made blueberry walnut pancakes on a remote beach one morning). The experience at their base camp was amazing too (salmon dinners, hot tub, amazing views). I loved the kayaking and ice climbing. Who else can say they kayaked up to a glacier and went ice climbing on a glacier. For what you get to experience I think the pricing is great, I would not have done it any other way."
