Reviews of Above and Beyond Alaska
"Had an incredible experience canoeing out to the glacier. Our guides were knowledgeable and humorous and made the rowing easier sharing this knowledge and funny stories as we paddled out to our landing spot. As we walked around they pointed out how far the glacier had receded and that the ground we were standing on was glacier just two years ago. We held, felt and tasted glacial ice. We saw a tree trunk that remained after the glacier had melted - carbon dating aged it to be over 2500 years old. Aside from the beautiful scenery, fun stories and rowing, we witnessed one guide proposing to another on this final trip of the season. We highly recommend this truly wonderful and memorable experience."
"Chris & Matt were wonderful! We did the whale watching/kayaking combo which was perfect for our teenage boys because it was more adventurous than just whale watching. They provided all the gear we needed and a wonderful snack! Highly recommend."
"We did the Pack Creek Bear Viewing tour. This was such a worthwhile excursion even though we only saw a single bear. Our timing was definitely a little off with the salmon run barely started, and a hot sunny day caused the bears to more likely stay unseen in the coolness of the forest. So we knew going in that we might not have a lot of luck with seeing bears but Above and Beyond (and especially Dan and Miles) ran a superb excursion. This was our first time in a float plane and the experience was magical! A smooth, fun flight to Pack Creek and we really felt safe and in good hands throughout. Dan and Miles thought of everything to make the trip fun and comfortable from a superbly illustrated guidebook about the bears, boots, rain pants and coat, a pair of powerful binoculars for each of us, a comfy camp chair to eat lunch and snacks in, a delicious healhy lunch, filled water thermoses that were ours to keep, and even a piggyback ride onto the beach to keep us dry when the plane moored a little further out in the water. We only saw a single male young adult brown bear but he was a beauty! We also saw lots of bald eagles and took a fun guided hike through a forest trail (including snacking on wild salmonberries and blueberries) to cap off the trip. Dan and Miles were so personable and just genuinely nice guys that it felt like we were being guided by two good friends that just happened to be extremely knowledgable naturalists. If we were to do it again i would try to time our visit a bit later in July or August, but Pack Creek is a magical, peaceful spot well worth a visit and Above and Beyond does a fantastic job at making a visit there seamless. We hope to get back to Juneau again in the future and would love to take another excursion with Dan and Miles and Above and Beyond Alaska!"
"The whale watching kayak tour was the highlight of our trip to Juneau! Our guide, Noah, taught us all so much about the humpback whales, and even some of the birds we saw. He was very friendly and fun to hang out with the whole tour! Matt, the boat driver, was also very cool and got us up close to see the bubble net feedings! It was a breathtaking experience. We will definitely be booking with Above and Beyond again :D"
"We did the Mendenhall Glacier Trek. This was our main goal for our Alaska trip and wow it did not disappoint. The hike was amazing and the views were breathtaking. It was a strenuous 8 mile hike, I may have been the slowest but the guides, Chef and Melanie (I think) were wonder. Never once did they discourage me or make me feel as though I was keeping others from things. Both guides have wonderful knowledge of the native plants and minerals which made for the hike to be more educations than expected. They were fun, patient, and super knowledgeable. They helped make sure our group had a great time. This company needs to be on everyone's list when visiting Juneau Alaska."
