Reviews of Alaskan Dream Cruises
"4.5 stars. In the aggregate, our Alaskan Dream Cruise on the Baranof Dream was wonderful and deeply memorable. The mix of crew and passengers created a fun and intimate community of folks, who made our 8 days in the inside passage a trip that rang all the bells. The spectacular wildlife and scenery viewing, perspective-enlarging encounters with southeastern Alaska's 1st peoples, their history and culture, and regular time to walk and hike on land away for the tourist hubs created an experience I would have happily extended for another 8 days. We loved being on a vessel that felt like a boat instead of a floating hotel, and were very comfortable in our two bed cabin. The opportunities to visit native villages and talk with people about their lives was wonderful, and the excursions up the narrow fjords our smaller boat enabled gifted us with views and animal sightings that felt almost magical. For, us the trip would have been even better if, in order of priority: 1. More direct interaction between the naturalist and passengers. Our naturalist was very knowledgeable and always willing to answer questions, but he was not very outgoing, and he didn't seem very comfortable with us until the end of the cruise. I was hoping for more general interpretive information and involvement. Contributing to this was the fact that the PA speakers on the bow weren't working during our cruise. When we were out on deck, we missed naturalist content being provided in the lounge. 2. More time for exploration by kayak. Our cruise only offered this once, but the trip description led us to believe it would be a more regular event. 3. More time in the museums at our ports of call (we know scheduling is dependent on many moving parts...) Overall trip comfort would have been improved by a few minor changes or adjustments: 1. A small stepping stool to aid those of us with weak hips in getting in and out of the berths. 2. I'm not sure where it might go, but a chair in the cabin would have made putting on socks and boots a lot less precarious with my hip issues. 3. More hooks for wet gear in our cabins 4. Lighter menu options for lunches and dinners, combined with smaller entree portions. The giant portions were often sent back uneaten. Also, more whole fresh fruit!! More vegetables! I appreciated (and took advantage of) the nights a side of veggies was offered for those of us who eat more plant-based diets."
"I’ve never cruised before and I knew a big boat was not for me. We picked Alaskan Dream Cruises because of the size and because it would be better for the environment and that it was at least partly native-owned. The cruise was a perfect exposure to southeast Alaska. We got to see so much! We saw great towns, beautiful scenery, and tons of wildlife. The food was great, the crew was knowledgeable, and the activities were well timed so you never felt rushed or bored. My room was super comfortable, way roomier than I expected for a cruise, and super clean. I highly enjoyed my time with Alaskan Dream Cruises."
"One of my best vacations ever. It rained the whole time but didn't care. Lots to do, see, and learn on a daily basis. Saw tons of wildlife. My room and bed very comfortable. The crew were absolutely amazing! I am already planning a second trip."
"I took 11 of my family including six grandchildren/spouses-all in their early thirties on the Kruzof Explorer on the trip that included photographing bears august of 2021. It was the perfect trip. Wonderful weather, great crew, good food, knowledgeable naturalist. Being in their early thirties meant the young ones were up for polar plunging, fishing, kayaking and every other event. My daughter and son got great pics. I made a picture book as I often do. We've been on many great family adventures. This was one of the best."
"We had an amazing Last Frontier Adventure with Alaskan Dream Cruises from June 11-18, 2021. There were 8 of us, and we were on the Admiralty Dream with 37 other guests. Getting back into the swing of things after missing last season due to Covid-19 was no easy task, but the captain and his entire crew were amazing. We saw so much wildlife: bald eagles, brown bear, moose with calf, mountain goat with kid, humpbacks, orcas and dolphins, Steller sea lions, sea otters, harbor seals and their newborn pups, and finally a black bear on our way to the airport in Juneau! Our King crab feast at Orca Point Lodge was also a highlight. Small ships are the way to go!"
