Reviews of Afton Point S Tire and Auto Service
"Quick service and no charge for resetting Mt TPMS"
"I brought my motorcycle in. they tried to get it to stand up but it fell over because it was two-tired. HA"
"I've been coming here for years and it's the best tire spot I know! Jenny and her husband and staff are awesome. Great human beings and great service!!!"
"Experience with this company in the past was as expected. I have used their service for alignment after installing a suspension upgrade, then for a new set of tires. The new tires includes periodically rotating the tires. The first rotation went as it should with no concerns. The second time the tires were rotated I found a missing valve cap and a damaged lug nut. When I tried to remove the damaged lug nut I found it was tighter than it should be. I hope anyone reading this review gains some knowledge regarding the importance of tightening lug nuts to manufacturer specifications. It's a fact that under or over tightened wheels on vehicles has resulted in millions of dollars of claims after damage, injury and deaths. The specs for my vehicle state 85-115 ft lbs for lug nuts, I set mine at 95 ft lbs. Industry standards advise that to exceed the "maximum" value given by 30-40 ft lbs may cause irreparable damage to the stud, lug and other components. I checked the tightened lug nuts with a calibrated torque wrench, first at 120 ft lbs then at 130 finally at 135. At this point I took my vehicle back to point s. I wanted someone to verify how tight all 20 lugs were. The only way to find how tight the lugs were was to keep increasing the settings on the wrench until there was movement of the lug nut. I wanted someone in management to address my concerns! I hope you're with me so far! When you have work done such as a tire rotation you should check the torque of the lugs after 50_100 miles. The problem in the "over tightened" scenario is that everything seems correct. You have no way of knowing unless you know the initial torque then do as I stated previously. I spoke with the owner of the franchise about my concerns! Much to my surprise he told me what I suggested was "impossible"! I mentioned that I have been a journeyman mechanic for over fifty years! With that he said "if you know so much maybe you should just do your own work! I guarantee I won't be back to point s. Many shops use impact wrenches with torque limiters or torque sticks as they're called. The concerns are air pressure and rating of the impact wrench to be accurate with torque values. These tools should only be used to achieve 2/3 of the total torque target. The final torque must be achieved with a calibrated torque wrench. I was truly hoping that my concerns would have been addressed! I can think of a number of ways my wheels were over tightened, I will never know! I just hope this doesn't happen to someone else with disastrous results!"
"These folks were amazing! They were super friendly and super helpful. They got me in and out late in the day on an emergency need for a new tire to get back up into the mountains. Then took great care of my cousin when he had to take his truck in for a shift lever issue a couple days later. Definitely found my go to spot when I'm in the area and need automotive help. They have great turn around on repairs and support informative and helpful."
